I have been riding for 40+ years. My ‘day job’ is to manage tech teams for our global IoT businesses. Our pre-planned annual Tour de Boland offer the vastness of Africa, fertile wine regions and desert wilderness, wonderful views, real mountains and picturesque villages, monumental rocky landscapes, lovely high valleys and a warm team that has only one thing in mind: an unforgettable time on the bike. For you, being here, our ad hoc and ‘lastminute’ Road Riding morning trips are all closely located to Stellenbosch. We have the bikes that would enable us to include some gravel choices for you too.

Where you’ll be:

Our typical riding terrain is tar (asphalt) but, depending on the bike choice, we do gravel and dirt tracks too. We offer all equipment needed. Familiar places: Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Rooi-Els

What you’ll do:

Depending on your needs, and heat of the day, we hit the road (latest) by 08:30, aiming to take one break, and end the ride latest 13:00. To ensure we are on the ‘same page’ before we hit the road, once all texting, emailing, and bookings are done, we try meet 30 minutes before our start, to ensure that we can fully meet your expectations.

Things we chat about:

  1. If you need to take a break from riding, be ready to order motorised transport using your mobile phone, for a service such as Uber
  2. How we deal with (un)expected issues, out of the road, such as delays due to crashes, puncture, and other matters
  3. Destinations that cater for all dietary needs
  4. Whether we should include wine in our diets 🙂 or garagiste / craft beer

Other things to note:

Our riding pace and time in the saddle is determined by you, the guest. If we are a bigger group, we also pair up guests of equal ability, and provide each such group with a guide. Rates are per person riding. And the typical duration is 4 hours.

A wonderful experience. Carinus is a perfect host. He showed me wonderful part of the landscape of SA and in addition I learned a lot about the culture. He showed me that discovering SA by bike is wonderful experience and the whole time I felt save.

I really enjoyed my ride with Carinus. The route included some interesting roads, wonderful views and great cafe stops. The pace was pleasantly relaxed and allowed us to cover a lot of ground while fitting in plenty of conversation. Carinus’s communication beforehand was good and he managed to arrange a great rental bike for me at a reasonable rate.

Absolutely wonderful experience, an incredible landscape and even more amazing people. If you are considering this at all go for it! Carinus went out of his way to make this as special a day as possible, and we could not have been happier to have the time on the bikes in this lovely place. Carinus is a wonderful person and host, took care of us incredibly well, and it was a pleasure to share the day together.
