Hi Carlos, well spotted. I loved my BMX back in the day. And it is easy to see where the brand name vs bicycle type confusion may arise. The computer tells us that BMX is a type of bicycle, an abbreviation for Bicycle Motocross, which refers to the sport and the bikes designed for it, not a specific brand. You can find various BMX bike types, such as freestyle, race, or dirt jump bikes, which are all different styles within the broader BMX category. 🙂

Hi Jaco – goeie vraag! My 1st MTB with disc brakes was an orange and black Schwinn MESA GSD back in the day. Best guess is they don;t appear on here because they aren’t one of the 50 largest bike brands, and it seems the interest shares this sentiment:

Thanks MIKA – well spotted, and yes I also use SRAM, albeit not ENVE (yet, maybe). For this list we focused on bicycle brands, not necessarily bicycle components manufacturers, but you are quite right: SHIMANO is on the list, so SRAM should be mentioned.

– ENVE : probably the best wheels and carbon components, with Poggy riding and winning on those wheels

I browsed some more and according to the suspensiontraveler.com their list of the THE 39 MOST REPUTABLE MOUNTAIN BIKE MANUFACTURERS in 2023 included the following — 10 of them unfamiliar to me: Antidote, Atherton, Banshee*, Bianchi, Cannondale, Canyon, Commencal, Cube, Devinci, Evil Bikes, Forbidden Bikes*, Ghost, Giant, GT Bicycles, Haibike*, Ibis, Intense Cycles, Kona, Lapierre, Marin, Merida, Mondraker*, Niner, Norco, Nukeproof, Orange Bikes*, Orbea, Pivot, Pole Bicycles*, Privateer*, Propain*, Radon*, Rocky Mountain, Santa Cruz, Scott, Specialized, Transition, Trek, Unno*, Yeti, YT Industries. Not necessarily the largest bike brands in the world, but subjectively the best MTB brands according to them. Now we know 🙂
