When time is of the essence, use this service. It allows you to send bicycles along certain main routes overnight. Which means we collect today around midday, and it leaves tonight around 6pm and goes overnight to get to the receiving depot tomorrow late morning and go out on delivery in the afternoon. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to overnight bicycle transport and that is why we have created this internal guide. And share it with everyone, both inside and outside of bicycle couriers.
DEDICATED VEHICLES for overnight bicycle transport
With standard bicycle shipments, the boxed bikes go via receiving depot onto long haul vehicles (typically interlinks which run between major centres) and then out on smaller vehicles again. But with overnight bicycle transport, things work differently, because we don’t have time for all of the above. Which is why there are dedicated smaller vehicles running overnight on certain routes. And that is how we can get your boxed bicycle delivered from say CPT to JHB by the next day. Read one for more.
COSTS for overnight bicycle transport
Because of dedicated vehicles there is a different cost structure. You can send a boxed bicycle from CPT to JHB on the standard around 3 day service for just 699 from a shop, but for overnight bicycle delivery on the same route it will be 2499. Which is lower than expected. In fact, when launching this product I thought it will only be used for emergencvies, like when people need to catch flights or get their bikes to events in time. But it turns out some people book this simple to get #newbikeday closer! And I can understand why.
YES, it still has to be boxed
Same as our other bicycle transport options for overnight your bike still has to be boxed. So the same applies. And please note our drivers cannot box it for you on collection. So the #1st thing to do when booking overnight transport is to check that the bike will be boxed in time. Which can probably best be done either DIY from the sender at home if we collect door to door; or from a local bike shop – they just have to be aware of the urgency.
NOTE: Not available on all routes
Overnight bicycle transport is not available on all routes. But here are a few examples of where we can assist. Which is pretty much the same as the motorbike route options. And include main. The most important exception is the DBN CPT route. Because it routes via JHB we cannot we something from DBN to CPT or vice versa overnight. It is simply too far for road freight to cover that distance overnight. So that will have to be flown. And then you have the e-bike battery restriction. Either way, here are the main routes for overnight bicycle transport via road freight through #bicyclecouriers:
- N1 route CPT to JHB and PTA
- N2 route CPT to PLZ and ELS
- N3 route JHB to PMB and DBN
- N4 route JHB to NLP
