Travelling to a cycling event should be exciting—not stressful. Whether you’re riding the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Cape Epic, Wines2Whales, Sani2c or another event, this guide answers the most common questions about transporting your bicycle, meeting event deadlines and getting your bike safely to the start line.

Can you transport my bike to the Cape Town Cycle Tour?

Yes, we do the CTCT every year and can send your bicycle there with #bicyclecouriers next time as well. Wave when you pass us with the Warriors on Wheels buggies en route. And by the time we arrive at the CTCT we will already have 1500kms plus in the legs after the Bolandcycletour during the preceding 3 weeks. Ah, what a time to be alive! Now where can we send your bicycle today?

Can you transport to the Cape Epic?

Yes, we do send MTB’s with #bicyclecouriers to the ABSA Cape EPIC every year. See you are the start line? This year’s EPIC was one for the books and we love the new slightly longer format (with a bit of competition from Kevin’s new Gravel Burn no less, we expect). Whether you want to send your MTB to the start of the ABSA Cape EPIC. Or your gravel bike to the start of the Nedbank Gravel Burn. Bicycle couriers is here to assist you all the way.

Can you transport to Wines2Whales?

Yes, we love participating and sending bikes to the Wines2Whales with #bicyclecouriers. This last event from Hermanus over the pass into Lourensford was great. And the next edition goes out back that way again. Whether you need to send a bike to or from Hermanus or Somerset West. Bicycle couriers can get your bike there and back. To or from a bike shop or door-to-door.

Can you transport to Sani2c?

Yes, we can certainly send your bicycle with #bicyclecouriers to Himeville or Underberg for the start of the Sani2c. Or back again from the finish in Scottburgh at the coast. Especially if there is overflow bike transport from other local providers. And there is a bicycle shop in Scottburgh at the finish if you need help boxing. See, you are never too old to learn. Thanks Nick from MMB for the heads-up. Bicycle couriers can collect from there every weekday.

Can you transport to Ironman?

Yes, we send many bikes to all local IRONMAN® and 70.3® half-ironman events in South Africa. Durban, PE and Mosselbaai. All with #bicyclecouriers. Which one are you doing next? Let us send your bicycle there. We know the ins and outs of this service backwards. Having participated ourselves. Just don’t ask for finish times. Because yes it is entirely possible and lots of fun to have a great swim and a great bike ride… And then walk the full 21.1kms to cross the finish line. Waving at supporters and feeling fresh as a daisy.

Can you transport to 947 Ride Joburg?

Yes! With #bicyclecouriers. And did you know that the 947 RideJHB has more accumulated climbing than the CTCT? And you thought JHB was flat. It is one of the best circa 100km road bike races in the country. And a great opportunity to pop into the Gold Reef City theme park with the kids, if that is your thing. Now when can we send your bike up to JHB for the next 947? We certainly want to be going back there year after year.

Can you transport to Amashova?

Indeed, we do. Did you know that the Amashova is the oldest road classic cycle race in South Africa? And they moved the start dates to earlier in the year. there is a circa 40km 70km and 100km race from PMB down to DBN. Welcome to the Amashova National Classic. Send your bicycle to either DBN or directly to PMB for the start. And back hom again after the finish in DBN. When can #bicyclecouriers send your bike there?

How early should I book?

The earlier the better. We collect every weekday. And our same day collection cut-off is technically 2pm. but then your bike must be boxed and ready. And it may also be that the driver has already been to your specific area or the vehicle is filled up which means we will collect the next day. For races earlier bookings are fine. As for holidays. But for ad hoc 1-way transfers you can contact #bicyclecouriers short notice. And mind those holidays and long weekends!

Can you store my bike?

Yes, but. We could store your bike but we rarely if ever must. The #bicyclecouriers network is a silky-smooth operation and your pickup and delivery dates are rather accurate. But in the very unlikely event of us needing to hang on to your bike for a day or two before you arrive then we could look at making an exception. Our depots are not for storage, but we have been known to make a plan when push comes to shove.

Can you return it afterwards?

Absolutely! The whole idea is convenience and ease of use. So, return bicycle transport to and from the event. And you can book your return bicycle transport on #bicyclecouriers by simple adding another same service item into your shopping cart and telling us the return date in the date comments field. So no need to load 2x separate order, unless you want to. Just another way of showing how we go the extra mile for ease of use. Brilliant.

Can you deliver to race villages?

Yes and no. For example, straight to the start line at the Tennis Club in Nieu Bethesda for the Ride The Owl Route event with #bicyclecouriers. Generally, is not a concierge service where someone stands at the start line and hands over your bike. But we can deliver it to the nearest bike shop. Or your hotel or accommodation, ready and waiting for your arrival. Now to which event or race can we send your bicycle next?

Can you collect after the event?

We collect every weekday. Which means you can leave the packed bike at your hotel. Or the nearest bike shop. And we will typically collect on the Monday after the race (assuming the race was on the weekend). And leaving your packed bike at the hotel front desk when you check out after an IRONMAN® or similar race is probably as easy as it gets. Not having to worry about your bike when using #bicyclecouriers. So, to which event can we send your bicycle next?

Can my support crew collect it?

Yes, but. We are very strict with 3rd party collections. For our and your safety and security. Which means if there is a valid paper trial and authorization then we could make an exception. Generally, we would require your written consent and copy of ID and waybill to arrange a third-party collection on your behalf from #bicyclecouriers or chosen delivery points. Now where would you like to collect your boxed bicycle next?

What if my race date changes?

We are flexible. If the race dates change, we can amend your transport dates accordingly. Just ask and we can make a plan. We suggest the following: if the race rolls over to the next year, we keep the booking and you can top up if needed closer to the time. If you want to change and use the booking for another event or date, then you only have to pay in the difference in service level if any. Quick and easy with #bicyclecouriers.

Can I send race bags?

Yes. There is ample space in the bikebox. Or if you need more than that we can book it in as extra pieces. Just tell us so we can note it on the #bicyclecouriers waybill. Especially handy for an IRONMAN® event where the off the bike admin sometimes feel as if it takes longer than the race itself. So throw your kit into the bikebox and have it all travel together. So you can fly in with just or without any hand luggage. Smart.

Can I send wheels separately?

Yes. You can also add it into the existing bike box provided that there is space. Alternatively, an additional wheel box is perfectly fine. Charged separately. And often a very cost effective extra seeing as you are already sending with #bicyclecouriers. Now you can have that extra set of wheels on hand when required. Also, a popular option for the ABSA Cape EPIC, as you can leave one set at a tech zone. Which could save your race!

Can bike shops send groups?

Oh yes indeed. We love to cater for groups. And know which bike shops can accommodate the volume. A group collection or deliver is quick and easy for our team as they have to drive around much less in order to deliver all those bike boxes for the day. Can clubs send multiple bikes?

Yes please. We love working with clubs because group bookings make for easier planning and usually more pickups from a single location. Same principle as group bookings from a bike shop for an event. Or from an office block for say the DC in Swellendam. So please do try to book a whole group together if you can. As it makes with life of your friendly #bicyclecouriers so much easier. We thank you in advance.

Do you offer event specials?

We do have specials all year round and can certainly cater for special pricing depending on your group size. Our #bicyclecouriers website have specials listed most of the time and you are welcome to book those, directly, online. Or if you have a large order and high minimum order quantity the we can create a custom rate if it works for everyone concerned. The sender and recipient and bicycle couriers. Let’s go!

What events do you support?

Any and all. Not always officially or as the single preferred supplier or provider. But we do send boxed bicycles from (A) to (B) anywhere in South Africa. With #bicyclecouriers. And we collect every weekday. So even if the appointed bike transporter (if any) for a said event is full then we can still send your bicycle on our network. To the race or nearest bike shop or to your hotel, ready and waiting for your arrival. Isn’t that beautiful?
