Trying to send boxed bicycles on BOBGO

We encountered the follwing while trying to send a boxed bicycle with BOBGO

*Let me start by saying I am a BOBGO account holder and love the platform. But it is not a one size fits all. As this example shows. Trying to send a bicycle with BOBGO? We tried. And found the following failed rates from certain providers. Two examples below. Which makes me draw the conclusion that although it is a great platform for smaller items, their focus is exactly that: smaller ecommerce type items. Not oversized. Not boxed bicycles. For that #bicyclecouriers is still your best bet. In our humble opinion. Obviously.

Why did it fail? Two examples below.

Internet express

Internet express’ express service failed because the boxed bike volumetric weight exceeds 30kgs. By a long shot. As the volumetric weight of a typical 160*30*80 boxed bicycle is either 76kgs or 96kgs(!) depending on whether you use factor 5000 or 4000. Which is fairly large. Even though not nearly as big as an unboxed bicycle. But that is a story for a different blog post. // But trying to send small items door to door or locker to locker? That is where Internet express excell. Do try them out.

Breaze delivery

Breaze delivery’s fast option failed because they don’t accept parcels larger than 60*60*60cms for this service. Compared to a average sized boxed bicycle that comes in at 160*30*80. Which is a fair deal larger. The volumetric weight for the latter, using factor 4000, is 96kgs. Whereas their max volumetric weight for 60cms cubed and using the same factor is just 54kgs, which is almost half. Meaning the boxed bicycle is twice as large as what they accept. // But I love what the team at Breaze accomplished. Ie from 12 deliveries per month to 1000 per day. All with Two guys, one bakkie, and a ridiculous idea… brilliant!

Conclusion

In both instances above the service was unavailable because if the size of the item. Which stands true based on what we found. IE the larger the item, the relatively more expensive a courier company becomes, in general, compared to a specialist provider. And by all means, you can most certainly book a boxed bicycle for transport on TCG The Courier Guy. The cost is just more then double our main center rates for the economy road option.

Now where can we send your boxed bicycle today?
