Lost and found: phone on the Stellenbosch trails
Lost a phone on the Stellenbosch trails. This morning I went for a ride with Lottie. It was the usual coffee ride from Stellenbosch through to Jonkershoek gate and doing the gravel path and Dentist singletrack before the halfway stop. Except it was raining. Perfect weather for a Belgian. It was pouring at the gate so no stopping, we promptly turned around and back down the dentist to Coetzenburg for more trails. But I slipped around one corner, and my mobile phone must have fallen out. I never realized, at least not before getting home and wanting to hop into the shower. That dreaded moment you realize this might be a day with a lot of time and admin being spent on a phone replacement – plus cards and sims and contacts etc…
Light at the end of the tunnel
But was first thing Monday morning (and it was raining), so there weren’t many/any others out on on the singletrack. The moment I realized it could only have come out during the slide, Valerida and I drove back and walked down the muddy wet path to the exact spot… and there it was. In plain sight. Wet and muddy. But such a relief. Can you imagine the amount of time and admin for a phone replacement on a Monday. After a quick coffee at the gate things were back to normal. Pure bliss. Oh, and I am sure that even if someone picked up the phone there was a good chance that they might have handed it in at the Balance coffee shop at the gate in any event. Holding thumbs. And vouching for humanity. Note to self, check your stuff after sliding out and restarting on the bike.
Oh, and why the ride?
Because Vanessa said so. A quick intro. Shared interests. Lottie and co spends some time down here in sunny South Africa during the busy cycling season and it may be a perfect fit for what we do. They have vast experience and hubby Jasper from BIKEHIGH has some skills to boot. Looking forward to presenting what he does on our cyclotourism.co.za network. And maybe there are synergies for the BOLANDCYCLETOUR next year. After all, they are coming down for the CTCT, like so many others…
Now to keep the rubber side down.
