Example 2: no sale, just sending a bicycle to a family member.
South Africa to America. Via air freight. Sender and recipient are family. So essentially sending to oneself. No import and export codes were used or needed. Just ID numbers and tax numbers. And even though no sale took place, the sender just sent the bicycle without any charge to the recipient – we still had to make use of a commercial invoice. To show the value of the bicycle. Example 3: sale of bicycle, between companies.
Namibia to south Africa. Via road freight. And both the sender and the recipient ie the importer and exporter is a company. In this case the bicycle manufacturer sold and exported an ebke from Namibia to the buyer in South Africa, a farming company. Which is appropriate, because these are bushbikes. Made for the farm. And rugged terrain. Perfect for Africa. Fortunately both parties had their import/export codes and certificates readily available and together with the commercial invoice the paperwork was quick and easy.
