Can you believe it’s APRIL this week? And what have we done…
We’ve been running around all systems go and full steam ahead since before the December holidays. Which is a mad rush for bicycle couriers. As the great migration takes place where everyone upcountry heads to the coast. And we all know you need to take your bicycle with you. So after the DEC/JAN rush we immediately jumped into our very own bicycle tour. Which means admin till midnight and wake-up at 4am. And so on and so forth and see more below. What have we done so far in 2026…
Bolandcycletour
What have we done in FEB? Trials and tribulations on our longest tour. As we took a few international riders on a 3 week tour of sunny South Africa. Which was actually less sunny than expected. But provided welcome relief from what could have been. And we thoroughly enjoyed every centimeter of of every kilometer of every day of the 2026 BOLANDCYCLETOUR. Which tallied up to just under 1500 kms in total – plus the 15000 plus vertical meters – and seeing the BIG FIVE!
Tourdeboland
What have we done in MAR? This local is lekker version slotted in with our larger group. As the vast majority (if not all albeit 1 rider) were existing returning customers. They know who we are. And what we do. And understand our quirks and our funny sense of humor. Which was very welcome in showing the riders from abroad how we do things. And things we did indeed. The 600 plus kilometers through the Boland with an optional magical 200+kms stage is something to behold. And might happen during the week post Argus (CTCT) in 2027. Let’s see how it goes.
Chris’ 10th(!) EPIC
What have we done on the MTB? It is not every day that a team gets to do 4x EPICS together. And it is certainly not every day that one of those team members completes his 10th(!) ABSA Cape EPIC. Well done to Chris van Zyl for not only being the perfect team member and all round good guy but also on completing number ten. That equates to over 7000 of the harshest kilometers on a MTB that Africa can throw at you in a race. 5 EPICS around the very beginning. And then a decade doing other things before complaint another five now during 2022 2023 2024 2025 2026. And I am very grateful to have been part of the latter.
Kidney stones
What have we done post EPIC? Yip, never through I’d be writing down these words but here they are. And there is the teeny tiny little kidney stone on my bedside table to show what harm such a little bugger can do in a short space of time. It happened due to dehydration on the EPIC. Which happened due to the stomach bug on the EPIC. But it didn’t stop us from having on paper what is our best EPIC. Plus then a few days in Mediclinic Stellenbosch afterwards (beware ward B, but that is a story for another day). Eventually packing up and getting rid of it at home.
And now back in the office
What have we done NOW? And yes as I sit here in a comfy desk chair in front of a bunch of computer screens I stare out the window and wonder about the next adventure. Which I already know is in the making. And this time it has got nothing to do with bicycles or wheels. Cornelius wants to do a Robben island crossing. So fetch the goggle because we are off to the cold Atlantic CPT sea water not too long from today. Never a dull moment…
