It’s happening: team CYCLOTOURISM at the ABSA Cape EPIC 2026

CYCLOTOURISM: Last minute ABSA Cape EPIC entry

History repeats itself? Last year I got an entry to the inaugural NEDBANK Gravel Burn that started in Knysna, a mere 3 days before the start of the race. Which proved to be great market research for our very own BOLANDCYCLETOUR by CYCLOTOURISM that was held over the last 3 weeks. And this year I found a similar fortune online as I bought and transferred an EPIC entry from a Brazilian team who couldn’t make it. SO here we are, entered 5 days before the start of the 2026 race. Let’s go!

Watch out for team CYCLOTOURISM at the ABSA Cape EPIC this year

Chris and I will be sporting our green BOLANDCYCLETOUR kit, complete with the names of every rider who participated in the 3-week bucket listed road bike tour with us this year, as we take them on a virtual MTB journey while we do The Untamed African MTB Race. The Absa Cape Epic is a physically grueling and mentally demanding mountain bike stage race. It is hosted in South Africa’s Western Cape region amidst arguably some of the most beautiful natural surroundings in Africa.

  • 8 days
  • About 700kms
  • 15900 vertical meters

*Why do they call this the race that measures it all? Because… Recognized as the world’s most televised mountain bike race and classified as hors catégorie by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the Absa Cape Epic stands as the pinnacle of mountain biking excellence.

Let’s go and get nr 10!

What does it take to ride 10x ABSA Cape EPICS? Well assuming that each one is around 650-700-odd kms and say 15000 to 17000 meters of climbing then combined these amount to a mammoth task of around 7000kms and 150,000 vertical meters of the toughest mountain biking terrain on the African continent. Welcome to ten times the Tour de France of Mountain Biking. Hats off, Chris van Zyl. Now let’s go and get number 10 with team CYCLOTOURISM.
