The effect of the fuel price increase on courier companies and costs
And just like that we the war and the massive fuel price increase across the board. At midnight the fuel levy emails started coming in from various suppliers and courier companies as they and we have to adjust with the times. I think this is the first time in probably 3 years that we have to up our prices. Up until now we have absorbed the price increases but can only do so to a certain extent. And while this fuel price increase saw diesel go up from (50ppm coastal rate) R18.50 in January 2026 to the current just under R32 per liter in May 2026 as of this morning and listed on the AA fuel price website. Ie an increase of almost 72%(!). And at the same time our bicycle couriers prices have only gone up around 10% as follows:
Just +R100 per boxed bicycle, main or remote
- Main centre deliveries from 699 to 799
- Remote rate deliveries from 999 to 1099
We do what we can to give you the best value for money boxed bicycle couriers delivery service in the country and intend to keep it that way, irrespective of the fuel price increase. Holding thumbs for a quick resolve in the war and subsequent fuel price normalization so we can all reap the benefit of lower prices.
Keeping it simple
Where we previously had to/from shop rates, and door-to-door rates for main centre boxed bicycle deliveries, we will likely now streamline it so that both options fall under the same umbrella. Then you don’t have to distinguish between shop rates and door rates and remote rates. As the only differentiator will be main centre rates vas remote area rates. Ie it doesn’t matter if we collect from a shop or door to door. Collecting from a shop will just be more convenient if you need help with boxing your bicycle. And we love the fact that bike shops are typically open weekdays during normal business hours so there is no chance of ending up with a delivery where the recipient is not at home and we have to return to depot and go back out on the next day.
