MTB RAMPS: You’ve got a Hunter in the carpentry business!

MTB RAMPS: Built with purpose!

Spoken like a true prodigy, from the young and up and coming South African downhill MTB star Ethan Hunter. Below is what he has to say about their stunning MTB ramps in production and ready to be bought online at thehunters.co.za/carpentry. And yes #bicyclecouriers will happily deliver them to your door. Just like we do with boxed bicycles all across the country. Here we go!

My name is Ethan Hunter, and my journey in carpentry has always been driven by a love for creating with my hands. Whether working with wood, metal, or glass, I’ve spent years shaping everything from detailed custom pieces to larger structural builds. Crafting things that are strong, reliable, and built with purpose has always felt natural to me.

Creating high-quality MTB ramps

Over time, that passion evolved into a carpentry business that blends skilled craftsmanship with my connection to mountain biking. What started as general building work gradually shifted toward designing and constructing high-quality MTB ramps — a space where my building experience and riding background come together perfectly.

For the last four years, I’ve focused on creating durable, rider-ready MTB ramps for riders looking to improve safely and confidently. From big projects like decks and roofing to precise, intricate custom builds, my work has always centered around quality — but the ramps are where my craftsmanship and my love for mountain biking truly align.

From local races to the World Championships

This business originally helped fuel my downhill racing career, supporting me from local races all the way to national competitions and eventually overseas to represent at the World Championships. Now, I’m putting that same energy into helping other riders unlock their progression.

Up until now, I’ve specialized in fully pre-assembled ramps built with strength, smooth transitions, and long-lasting reliability. But with demand growing across the country, I’m ready to take things national. I’m currently designing a new ramp system that can be shipped anywhere and easily built right at home — without compromising performance.

Strength, durability, and clean craftsmanship

While MTB ramps are a major part of what I build, my carpentry work extends far beyond that. Over the years, I’ve taken pride in creating custom pieces and structures that fit each client’s unique needs. Whether someone needs a one-off design, a specific size, or a completely original concept, I enjoy turning ideas into functional, high-quality builds.

My work ranges from action-sports features — like handcrafted skateboard ramps and obstacles — to full outdoor construction projects, including patios, pergolas, and other outdoor living additions. I always aim to blend strength, durability, and clean craftsmanship, no matter the scale.

I also take on smaller indoor projects, creating custom shelves, home décor, storage solutions, and detailed woodwork that adds character and practicality to any space. Every piece is built with care, precision, and a focus on long-term reliability. Whether it’s a ramp, a patio, or a custom item you simply can’t find in a store, I’m always ready to build something that fits your vision.

MTB ramps designed by someone who understands

My goal is simple: to give riders access to professionally crafted ramps designed by someone who understands both the craft and the sport. Whether you’re learning your first jumps or sharpening advanced techniques, I’m here to help you take your riding to the next level!
