Tankwa Trek (FEB)

The Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, is SA’s premier 4-day stage race. 9-12 February 2023. Cape Town Cycle Tour (MAR)

Since 1978. “Every given 2nd Sunday in March”. South Africa hosts some of the largest, by the number of entrants, sporting events in the world with three being the largest of their type. The Cape Town Cycle Tour, with as many as 35 000 cyclists taking part, is the world’s largest individually timed cycle race. The other two are the world’s largest ultra-marathon running event, the Comrades Marathon, and the world’s largest open water swim, the Midmar Mile. CTCT also formed the last leg of the Giro del Capo, a multi-stage race for professional and leading registered riders which was last run in 2010. More on cycletour

Cape Epic (MAR)

Since 2004. “The Tour de France of Mountain Biking”. The Absa Cape Epic, founded by Kevin Vermaak, is an annual mountain bike stage race held in the Western Cape, South Africa. It has been accredited as hors catégorie (beyond categorization) by the Union Cycliste Internationale. The 8-day race consists of a prologue and seven stages, and typically covers more than 680 km & 16,900 m of climbing. Professional mountain bikers from around the world encompassing up to 650 teams compete teams of two. To qualify for a finish, teams must stay together for the duration of the race. More on capeepic

Sani2C (APR)

MORE THAN A RIDE. The KAP sani2c is a three-day, 265-kilometre mountain bike stage race in KZN. The event begins on a small sheep farm near the country’s mother of all mountain passes, the Sani Pass in the southern Drakensberg. Pedalling across a section of the KZN Midlands mist belt, riders traverse scenic dairy and timber farms, glide through indigenous forests and soar down a breath-taking pass into the Umkomaas Valley before criss-crossing a nature reserve and sugar cane farms that eventually deliver them onto the shores of the Indian Ocean. 36One MTB Challenge (MAY)

The 36ONE MTB Challenge. The ultimate single-stage MTB race in South Africa. 361 kilometers around the Klein Karoo. #TheUltimateRace – This is South Africa’s ultimate race with 361km and a maximum of 36.1 hours to complete it. While this race remains a mountain bike race in our opinion, participants now have the flexibility to take it on with a gravel- or mountain bike, so choose wisely!  If you are not up for the full Challenge, you can take on The Half or opt for The Relay in a team of 4. The Great Zuurberg Trek is a boutique mountain bike stage race in the heart of the Addo region. And The Rubicon Great Zuurberg Trek E-edition is a three-day boutique MTB event for e-bikes. IRONMAN® Durban (JUN)

The ISUZU IRONMAN 70.3 Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal. Anything is possible. It features an ocean swim, rolling bike ride passed Umhlanga and a flat run around the promenade and Moses Mabhida stadium. As with Ironman, Ironman 70.3 is a trademark. 70.3 stands for the total distance covered in miles during the event. It’s comprised of a 1.2mile (1.9km) swim, 56mile (90km) bike and 13.1mile (21.1km) run. Exactly half the length of an Ironman. Durban is a fun event; I can attest to that. Cheers.

Around the Pot (JUL)

BWell Around the Pot – Overberg Gravel Race – Presented by SEESA – single-day Gravel Race race through blooming canola fields, consisting of a 200 miler (double pot); 100 miler (full pot); 60 miler (half pot); and a 25 miler (mini pot). SA’s Greatest Gravel Race. 29 July 2023. Riders will depart from Swellendam and will experience 160km of gravel road, racing towards the Potberg mountain. They will then cross the Malgas ferry in a 45min neutral zone before riding the last 60km back towards Swellendam where the Gravel KING and QUEEN will be crowned each year. More on aroundthepot

Glacier Storms River Traverse. The most social 3 Day MTB Stage Race in SA | Storms River | Tsitsikamma | held around August. The scenic 3-day stage race will take place in the Tsitsikamma area and is one of the highlights on the mountain biking calendar for riders and their families. Have you saved the date? 11 to 13 August 2023. For eBikers the #StormsRiverTraverse remains one to do. The short routes mean battery management is straightforward, particularly for those who ride conservatively and chat to their fellow riders rather than race through the field. Trans Baviaans (AUG)

Trans Baviaans 24HR MTB Race. The Trans Baviaans is a 230km, 24hr MTB marathon race from Willowmore through the remote Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, all in a team format. Since its start in 2004 it has been growing annually, deserving its place on many mountain bikers’ wish list. “The toughest single stage race in the world”. Because this is a team event, consisting of 2, 3 or 4 cyclists per team, the concept is very different to that of an ordinary MTB race. The distance of 230 km from Willowmore to Jeffrey’s Bay must be completed in 24 hours to qualify for a medal. More on TransBaviaans

Cape Pioneer Trek (SEP)

Karoo2Coast (SEP)

Braaidag. Oh, what a brilliant MTB weekend. The Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge is a 100km off road race from UNIONDALE to KNYSNA via the Prince Alfred’s Pass. The route is scenic, challenging and riders are encouraged to train sufficiently for this event to maximize the enjoyment of the experience. PrinceGeorge (OCT)

Prince George is a premium 100 Miler, the most diverse one-day race you’ll ever experience. The Swartberg and Montague pass are two of the most famous (or infamous for some) mountain passes in the Western Cape amongst mountain- and gravel bike enthusiasts with their steep climbs and lightning descents. Whines2Whales (OCT)

Part of the EPIC series. The Race with GEES! 3 Days of Mountain Biking through the Western Cape | 200km and 4500m of climbing. Since inception in 2009, the three events, aptly named after the wines of the area, have become a must-do event on the mountain bike calendar with riders from the farthest reaches of the country and the world. Its biggest drawcard is undoubtedly the route, which has been perfected over the past decade (plus a few!). In 2023, the FNB Wines2Whales is switching back on itself and taking teams from the whales to the wines in the FNB Wines2Whales Switchback! More on Wines2Whales

IRONMAN® Mossel bay

The ISUZU IRONMAN 70.3 Mossel Bay Mossel Bay, South Africa will be held on November 19, 2023. The course features a bay swim, hilly bike ride and rolling run. A Race to Inspire. Mossel Bay offers scenic beauty of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains and the azure blue sea, rolling green hills and pastures, rich agriculture, and culture. Fynbos, aloes, dolphins and whales, a place one can only describe as paradise – a tourists dream. Mossel Bay’s history is unique and was pivotal to the development of the rest of South Africa.

Double Century (NOV)

Old Mutual Wealth Double Century 200km Team Time Trial, South Africa’s premier endurance road cycling event. The circular route the starts in Swellendam and visits Suurbraak and Tradouw Pass, Op de Tradouw, Montagu and Ashton, while side swiping Barrydale, Robertson and Bonnievale before heading back to Swellendam. Riders will experience a mix of dairy farmland, canola fields, mountain passes, a hint of the Karoo, vineyards, river-crossings, historical towns, and plenty of picture-postcard moments as they pedal their way round this special corner of the Western Cape. The Munga (NOV)

The Munga is a single stage non-stop mountain bike race. 29th November – 4th December 2023. 1000km in 120 hours. A single-stage mountain bike relay race across the middle of South Africa in the heat of the Summer. There are 5 race villages where riders can rest, eat and get mechanical assistance. There are also ten water points placed between 60 and 90 kilometres apart. From BFN toe Wellington, The route will be predominantly off road. The route will be a GPS route so riders will not have to think about navigation. The route is a little more that 1000kms and covers some of the most beautiful, and barren terrain in South Africa. December Garden Route Service

Oh, and this is a fun one! Every December holiday south Africa experiences a massive migration of citizens from inland to the coast. Especially from Gauteng to the Cape and Garden route. And now you can bring along your bicycle on holiday. Keep fit and have fun. E-bikes are very welcome, as we transport via road freight there is no issues as with flying. We can collect on any weekday and send your bicycle from point A to B, anywhere in the country 😊

We are only closed for the 1 week between Christmas and New Years and have never had a need for bikes to be sent then. by that time everyone is lying at the beach or happily on holiday and all the bikes start moving again in the 1st week of the new year. Cheers.
