Safe cycling in and around Stellenbosch

Yesterday morning we had a meeting with the mayor about safe cycling in and around Stellenbosch. I am thrilled that Danie took it upon himself to drive this initiative and very happy to help where possible. PS, Jeremy Fasser is the Executive Mayor of the Stellenbosch Municipality, elected in November 2024 following the retirement of Advocate Gesie van Deventer. He leads the DA-controlled council, focusing on infrastructure development, community safety, and financial management.

The following persons, among others, were in attendance.

Mason

Juan Mason – Masons Bike Inn. Not only stockists of famous brand names such as GT, Schwinn, Mongoose, Merida and Avalanche, Mason’s Bike Inn also offers a complete workshop with mechanics. With every service, Mason offers a free bike set-up, where body positioning in relation to pedal stroke is corrected for optimal power output. Mason’s has a collect and drop-off facility when your bike is due for a service. Mason’s has also initiated a new repair service where their mechanics will do bike repairs at your home – an appointment needs to be made. And he says safe cycling is imperative. Ernst Gouws – from Stellenbosch Trail Fund. STF is a community organisation that maintains several of our town’s world class natural resources, including the upper reaches of the Eerste River and hiking, biking and running trails in and around Stellenbosch. Our stewardship is funded by both private and corporate donors and extends beyond the physical landscape, to the facilitation of skills development and creation of economic opportunities in outdoor recreation and tourism for our local communities. Specialized Africa

Bobby Behan – from Specialized South Africa. Great rapport between Bobby and Mason and the former jokingly said the latter started the Specialized workshop in Stellenbosch way back when with Marido moved over to Specialized. And Mason said at the time that Marido is the most experienced bike mechanic in Stellenbosch and together with Jubian they provided top of the line service to some of the South African cycling greats as well as maintaining the bikes of the weekend cyclist. I love how Bobby also positioned his brand as for all walkf of live and not just elitist. More on specialized.com/za/en
