Extra items and the bikebox holiday hack
Itโs the end of the year and we know it. Time for many students to finish off what they started right in in Stellenbosch and indeed many other student towns across the country. Potchefstroom is also quite popular. So now we are sending back bicycles from the respective varisty residences to the student’s respective family homes. And with that comes additional items as wellโฆ
- Can you send fridge? YES!
- Can you send a bicycle? YES!
- Can you send a cupboard? YES!
- Can you send extra items? YES!
Indeed we can. And we do.
3x Examples of the bikebox holiday hack
See โ not just boxed bicycles. You can make use of this clever little bikebox holiday hack to send not quite anything you like. But a few items that are bulky but maybe light and fits into a standard sized cardboard bikebox. Just like what we did below. Have a look. What do they all have in common? All went from Stellenbosch, but that is pure coincidence.
(A) Bikebox holiday hack to the KRUGER PARK
First and foremost was when I used it myself earlier this year when we went on winter holiday. It was our first family Kruger National Park holiday flying up north with the kids. And iso having to either (A) lug around all the bulky camping gear or (B) having to rent it from a place up north, all I did was to pack what we need into 2x std cardboard bicycle boxes and send it door to door from here to our family in Witrivier. Which is close to Nelspruit. And it means everything was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. So we can have a seamless Kruger Park holiday. And only had to fly with carry on luggage. Pure bliss. And probably the best example of our bikebox holiday hack.
(B) Bikebox holiday hack for JAYDAN
Bikebox holiday hack number two went as follows. Sean finished his studies and needed to fly back to DBN. But he had a fridge and PC and airfryer and other small appliances still left over at his apartment at the Goldfields res. In Hammanshand rd, Stellenbosch. Where we used to play rugby at varsity many years ago. Before it was buikt up to the current state (brilliantly so I might add, well done Stellenbosch University). Anyway, the fridge went on DSV after he wrapped it himself and the bike and small appliances went into 2x standard sized bikeboxed back home. Where else can you send items like that so easy and for just around R749 per bikebox each. For a door to door service from Stellenbosch to DBN. Nicely done!
(C) Bikebox holiday hack for SEAN
Sean is a student in Stellenbosch and we brought his bike down to the res in Cluver street. He built himself a super cool and crafty cupboard from old vintage MECER plywood posters from back in the day, painted black, on wheels. So when it was time to go back up to JHB after studies he simply disassembled the cupboard, taped the boards together, popped it into a bikebox. And we delivered door to door from Stellenbosch to JHB for a fraction of the cost of what we would have paid elsewhere. Remember, most courier companies do not accept furniture at all. But this goes into our standard bikeboxes. So sending a relatively light standard product. Brilliant bikebox holiday hack number three.
