15x Depots in South Africa and we bet you don’t know them all…
Depots in South Africa. Part of annual review includes revisiting existing relationships. And this was one where it may have or not have started. Right in the beginning when bicycle couriers was about to send our very first boxed bicycle in South Africa. Now we remember the depots. And show how we can help you with bicycle deliveries all across the country. Set rates or not. We list them. See below.
JHB – Johannesburg
Johannesburg bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. 947 RideJHB here we come. Sandton was great and I loved the hustle and bustle around the JSE and financial district. Lots to see and do. And a certain kind of energy in the air. Plus, those glorious thunderstorms up north. Predictable weather patterns. And great off-road riding. PS, we’ve said the before, but did you know that the 947 has more total vertical meters of elevation gain than the CTCT Cape Town Cycle Tour? And the kids love Gold Reef City!

PTA – Pretoria
Pretoria bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Hatfield has certainly changed over the years. Gone are the days pre the Gautrain. Where we spent hours at LC de Villiers sports fields. Down Park street. Underneath the Jakarandas. Around the corner from Joost vd Westhuizen’s garage. And now things have changed. Joost isn’t here anymore. High-risers have sprouted all around. And the vibe has changed. But the weather stays the same. And we continue delivering boxed bicycles.

DBN – Durban
Durban bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. I just love going down to the warm waters of DBN. And the Amashova remains a favourite because of the trip and the scenery and the fast down finish to MM stadium at the coast. With fond memories of Kings Park rugby matches and the SS Elangeni’s teppanyaki. Now when are we going down to DBN again, whether it be for the IRONMAN® or any other race down there. And close to Scottburgh for the sani2c finish.

PZB – Pietermaritzburg
Pietermaritzburg bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Home of the bike shop of the GOAT. Greg Minnaar. We still stayed in JHB at the time and came down to see him emerge from the trees during the 2012 MTB downhill world cup to take the win. Check out this archive UCI YouTube clip here and think how far we have come in the last decade. And don’t worry – I’ve saved it at the right timestamp for you. Starting the Amashove in front of town hall in PMB? Let’s go!

CPT – Cape Town
Cape Town bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Slaapstad. Sorry, Kaapstad. But you have to agree that the drivers park in the right-hand lane on the highway and the middle or left lane is almost always faster. Go figure. Is it because we are seeing so many GP number plates down here recently? We went up Table Mountain earlier this week and I still maintain it is one of the best places in the world. which explains the lively Airbnb market and all the residents from upcountry streaming down.
Cape Town Kuilsrivier depot at https://maps.app.goo.gl/zsmXz6f23zPjKKNQA
PLZ – Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Or as some call it, ‘Benoni by the sea’. But not me. I won’t call it that. I was born there. so have a soft spot for PE. And love going there from time to time. including sending boxed bicycles there for the IRONMAN®. Hop over to Summerstrand or much further down the road to Uitenhage for a VW Volkswagen factory tour. And how many Polo’s do you spot? Last visit was a flight back home from PLZ after the inaugural Nedbank Gravel Burn. What an event!
Port Elizabeth Walmer depot at https://maps.app.goo.gl/CebYQPAcv8XUix6H7
BFN – Bloemfontein
Bloemfontein bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Think of Bloemfontein and I associate it with cycling there on a MTB all the way from Stellenbosch and Paarl for the start of the MUNGA. Up and down. Yoyo. Even though others claim to have done it first. Which is false. Come on an adventure with us through the karoo. Just ensure your water bottle stays full. Or have an extra. Plus, a space blanket. And close your eyes as you enter BFN from the south as it doesn’t always make for the best first impression partly due to the wind and partly due to littering. Zap it in a zibi.

ELS – East London
East London bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Hotel Osner for the 70.3® of olds, back in the day. But that was long ago and MMB since changed hands. And we wish Nick all the best and love working with him for referrals and ad hoc transfers. Interestingly, and for safety, very few if any of the third party providers we use travel along the N2 from ELS to DBN. Usually freight including boxed bicycles and other go via JHB so above Lesotho and down again. East London depot in Woodbrook,
KuGompo City, https://maps.app.goo.gl/LFqzxK11217T5uXm7
GRJ – George
George bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. The garden route is a busy one. Especially during the 70.3® event in Mosselbaai. Or sending bike to Knysna like for the start of the Gravel Burn last year. or the oyster festival. And what about finishing in Knysna after the K2C karoo to coast from Uniondale. Which happens one week later than the traditional long weekend including national braai day this year. whether you send a bicycle to Plett or Knysna or Sedgefield or Buffelsbaai, we want good weather around George.

NLP – Nelspruit
Nelspruit bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. The Nelspruit depot is at Rocky Drift meaning it is actually closer to Witrivier than Nelspruit. But everything expands so quickly it is just a matter of time before they merge. And this is exactly where we sent our camping gear in bicycle boxes last year before entering the Kruger National Park. Now that is a great hack for effortless travel. So, you can fly with only hand luggage and arrive with all your stuff waiting on the receiving end. Brilliant.
Nelspruit depot at https://maps.app.goo.gl/2fpSLDs9KNqCrVP58
PTG – Polokwane
Polokwane bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. This is the northernmost big depot in South Africa. Just 210kms from the Beitbridge border (after Musina) with ZIM. And 270kms from Pretoria below. traveling from PTA to PLK you will pass turnoffs from the N1 for Hammanskraal, Bela-Bela, and Mokopane before arriving in Polokwane. This is most certainly also the depot which you will be using when sending bicycles to Tzaneen. As we have done yesterday again.
Polokwane depot across PTG airport https://maps.app.goo.gl/DGjswW4cxrPYawmMA
NCS – Newcastle
Newcastle bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Now this was a pleasant surprise. As we do send from the area around them quite often and have a few favourite bicycle shops in the area. Also one from where I have bought bicycles for myself and our own fleet for Cyclotourism events ie Bolandcycletour. Newcaslte is on the N11 and about half-way between Ermelo in the North and the N3 turnoff towards PMB in the South (on the opposite side of Clarens).

RCB – Richards Bay
Richards Bay bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Need to send a bicycle up to St Lucia? Or iSimangaliso wetlands park? Then Richarsdbaai is your depot. And we do get many requests for same. Richardsbaai is on the N2 about halfway between DBN and Mozambique. More specifically, Ponta do Ouro, where we have been to after losing a tyre or two and crossing the sand dunes. But once there you can enjoy the beach and the R&R to your hearts content. Rest and recover or rum and raspberry.
Richardsbaai depot in Alton at https://maps.app.goo.gl/B4WGS34V2cSFChXy6
UTN – Upington
Upington bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Perfect for the flower tours near Springbok and Okiep and above. To and from which we send many an Ebike for said tours. Just ask Hanno and Sonja from Trisport. Or Michael from the bicycle rental company here in the winelands. From Springbok you go through Aggenys and Pofadders and Kakamas before you get to Upington. Upington is 380kms from Springbok, which is 580kms from CPT. Which means Upington is about 800kms from CPT as the crow flies. Or 940kms on the N4 and N14.
Upington Vooruit str depot at https://maps.app.goo.gl/kMnR4udxrJp7PWfDA
MDB – Middelburg
Middelburg bicycle transport with bicycle couriers. Halfway between Pretoria and Nelspruit. Just after Witbank. On your way to the Kruger National Park. That same route we followed just last year this time. on the N4 after Witbank aka eMalahleni. Which makes a lot of sense given the amount of parcel deliveries in the area. And NORTH of this depot is Groblersdal and Marble Hall. SOUTH of this depot is Bethal and Ermelo. And EAST is Nelspruit aka Mbombela (Go Bokke!) and WEST is JHB and PTA.

Questions…
Which is the biggest Depots in South Africa? And which of the Depots in South Africa are closes to you. Or which of these Depots in South Africa do you prefer? We are agnostic. Because we treat everyone fairly and continue sending boxed bicycles from (A) to (B). Now where can we send your bicycle today?
