#bicyclecouriers Q1 update: Bolandcycletour & Tourdeboland!

What has happened in the world of #bicyclecouriers Q1 update so far this year?

It’s almost the end of the first quarter and we haven’t even had time to post a single article yet in 2025! Why? Because the December mad rush of sending bicycles with the big holiday migration from Gauteng to the coast and back kept us busy, and then straight into a 3 week circa 1500km ‘best-of-the-Boland’ road bike tour catering for riders from the US, UK, Canada and locals. Which ended with the CTCT on Sunday. And now the next event is the ABSA Cape EPIC starting this weekend. Let’s tackle each one of these, plus more. This is the #bicyclecouriers Q1 update and about time again for a newsletter…

Bolandcycletour

Bolandcycletour is our very own 3-week cycling spectacular around the Western Cape. It is a road bike tour of around 1300km (based on next year’s distance) in which you cover an average of around 75kms per day on the bike, while spending the afternoons with fun-filled activities off the bike. The latter includes games drives, Big Five, safari, stargazing, wine tasting, olive tasting, beer tasting, dining inside a cave, visiting the Southernmost top of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic oceans collide, and so much more. Join us in 2026. By that time Bicycle Couriers should have more admin staff to ease the workload during the cycle tours. Now I am curious to see what the #bicyclecouriers Q1 update for next year will look like!

Tourdeboland

I have been involved with the Tourdeboland together with colleague Carinus Lemmer for the last 10 years and this year was the most coherent and thoughtful group we’ve had since inception, in my opinion. It culminated with an evening of laughter and celebrations after the CTCT, before he majority our international participants flew back home yesterday. Check out what is in store for the Tourdeboland 2026 next year. And now that the Tourdeboland has drawn to a close we have more office time to send via #bicyclecouriers. However I much prefer being outside on a bicycle than inside behind the desk and screens.

Warriors on wheels

This Sunday was the CTCT Cape Town Cycle Tour and for the umpteenth time I was fortunate to be pulling a buggy and sharing an amazing day out with my nephew, Bellingan, same as last year. he was in great shape this year and we were going at quite some pace for such a large vessel, but there were the obligatory many COKE stops and we also had 2 punctures to fix, one going up Chapman’s peak, and another going down into Houtbaai, on the same wheel. Check out the details right here. Bicycle couriers have been proud supporters of Warriors on wheels for many years now and also send their buggies and bicycles off to the next adventure all across South Africa. This is one of the highlights of my #bicyclecouriers Q1 update(s), every year!

Absa Cape EPIC

After 3 glorious consecutive Absa Cape EPIC’s I will be cheering on my partner from the sidelines this year and hope they have a safe and successful race in 2025, also the first time that the EPIC will go through the Paarl HERO trails by Darren Herbst and team, also from Specialized Paarl just down the road. I can’t wait to see how things develop. Find the 2025 Absa Cape EPIC route review right here. Bicycle couriers will certainly be in support next to the trails. See you there!

Hijacking in Fourways

A first for us, after 8 years of sending bicycles. Including both the previously-owned Move My Bicycle and this current Bicycle Couriers. There was a hijacking of a vehicle while in transit busy doing deliveries in Fourways, Gauteng. And not just any old hijacking – the criminals posed as police officers. It happened on Friday. We received the report and the police case number yesterday (Monday) afternoon and post about it first thing this morning (Tuesday). Because we take our safety and security and reputation very seriously and are transparent about the way we send bicycles. Read more here. Will this lead to more of the GIT insurance sales, a product which took us quite some time to put together? And at a cost of just half to one third of the ‘industry average’. Either way, this was the low point of my #bicyclecouriers Q1 update this year. Life has both ups and downs and we need to cope with either and both.

And more…

We updated our contact details for the Cyclelab workshops. And answered the ever so popular question: Where can I get these bicycle boxes to send my bike? That is more than enough for now. This completes our #bicyclecouriers Q1 update for 2025. On to the next one.

PS, what does it take to get to the top spot as the best boxed bicycle transport company in the country ito google organic ranking via good search engine optiomization? The right words and articles. Fortunately, we love adding these! Summary below:
