GET READY: Peak Season Preparations for Bicycle Couriers

As we expected the surge in volume has arrived

Peak season is here! And it may even start impacting delivery times. Which is why we manage expectations as best possible. Main centre boxed bicycle delivery timeframes are avg 3 days, say between CPT JHB PTA PLZ GRJ ELS and such. DBN goes vir JHB so may add one day. And remote areas may be +1 day as well. We quote on up to 5 days but in practice it happens quickly. Ie CPT to GRJ and PLZ and also JHB PTA to DBN and vice versa are often quick, sometimes even overnight if you are lucky. But it is not guaranteed. So for a dedicated timeframe check with us first.

A reminder of some of the items to be aware of for boxed bicycle deliveries during peak season

Increased volumes at our major hubs will lead to additional linehaul requirements and increased processing times, potentially delaying departure times and affecting arrival times at destination branches. The Johannesburg to Cape Town route is particularly sensitive due to transit times. We load freight on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the day and into the evening. We kindly urge customers who lodge freight to do so as early as possible in the afternoon/evening.

*bump*

Late-arriving freight maybe be “bumped” to the next day’s loading process, as we often don’t have enough late freight to justify running an additional vehicle making it economically unviable.

General traffic at coastal branches,

Including Cape Town, George, and the Garden Route area, is expected to increase, potentially impacting delivery times. And this is quite normal. Because during the holiday period there is a massive migration from Gauteng and inland down towards the coast. And yes please bring along your bicycle. So that you can get some fun in the sun and exercise during the holidays. And we can transport your bicycle to earn more income to spread around the family and the cycling community for more events.

Dutoitskloof, stop+go, etc

Let’s get practical. You drive these routes all the time. you know the drill this is what our fleet on the road also experience. With boxed bicycle deliveries during this peak season. Additional challenges include weigh bridge delays; road construction stop and go’s (particularly on the Garden Route) and potential closure of the Du Toits Kloof Tunnel. (This has happened as predicted).

Be wise, send early!

No need to wait until the closing hour before you rush and send. Lets collect your boxed bicycle and send it as soon as possible. We kindly request your patience if delays occur and encourage you to plan accordingly, factoring in potential disruptions in your supply chain over this period. In some cases, this may lead to delays of 12-18 hours beyond our standard service level agreement (SLA) expectations.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We look forward to deliver your boxed bicycle this peak season during the holidays. As always, via road freight, so e-bikes are welcome! Hermanus. George. Knysna. Garden route. Mosselbaai. Jeffriesbaai. Plett. And more! Now where can we send your bicycle today?

Kind Regards,

Nico and the #bicyclecouriers team
