After a good decade or so, Joggie can ride off into the sunset, while the bicycle transport is in good hands
The man that arguably started an industry (or at least perfected it, for the most part) his since swopped his bicycle for running shoes. Joggie is done with the bicycle transport. And instead of driving bicycles to and from races all around South Africa, these days he can travel in style and attend them as a participant. Pure bliss. I hope you tick off all of those bucket list races one after the other, Joggie.
The process is simple, and the new management continues as before, where bicycle collection takes place at certain dates and times prior to a race, directly from a list of bicycle shops and onto the trucks and trailers to be sent off to the races. Joggie’s bicycle transport keeps it short and sweet and simple with fewer than <10 pickup points around Gauteng. Here they are below. And yes, we collect from all of them, any single weekday of the year, for ad hoc boxed bicycle transport, outside of race dates (or for overflow if needed).
Bicycle transport collection points in Gauteng
- Lynnwood cyclery PTA – is THE specialized concept store in Lynnwood on the eastern side of Pretoria. And with that comes a certain familiarity and level of service we’ve become quite accustomed to. Well done GERT, it works. Like Coffeeworx.
- Epic sports Centurion – has that instant recognition of a WooCommerce WordPress website when you open their online platform. And this was also one of my very own first collection points in PTA for the CTCT way-back-when we started MMB.
- Ridgeway cycles JHB – and where is Ridgeway cycles exactly? In Greenstone place, which if you zoom out, is about exactly in the middle of the line from Sandton to the ORT intl airport and about 8kms North of Gillooly’s Interchange.
- CYCLELAB Fourways and Boksburg – can be mentioned in one go because FOURWAYS is the first and largest outlet of its kind so easy to accept bicycles, while BOKSBURG extends the reach with the same well-known service to the east rand and beyond.
- THE COOPETTO Parkmore – TIMO has been very helpful over the years, and I first remember his name from Transbaviaans escapades many moons ago. Do you know that they also have a great coaching system that gives back to the community?
- SPROCKET & JACK Dunkeld – we often collect from William at DUNKELD cycles, but this is a great alternative and suck a cool name that you wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to pop into Sprocket & Jack bicycle shop.
- METRO CYCLES Vanderbijlpark – it is not often that we have to cover the south of JHB as far out as VDB park but this convenient location services a massive area and is a clever stop on the way out of JHB towards the south towards to next bicycle race.
Closing thoughts on bicycle transport in South Africa
IT’S A WRAP: Closing is probably not the right word to describe this summary, as Joggie might have moved on, but the bicycle transport business is alive and kicking. Because there are so many races available to us in South Africa. And we do love a bit of VASBYT! So if you are looking to use bicycle transport service like Joggie’s bicycle transport, or Barend’s VIP bicycle logistics (covered in our next article), or Wynand’s bicycle transport logistics (or the easier-to-remember cycle transport domain) — or our very own bicycle couriers ad hoc daily service from anywhere in South Africa… you have options!
