Fuel levy adjustment โ 1st April 2026
Sending boxed bicycles across the country may be getting more expensive in the background, but for the short-term bicycle couriers have decided to keep our prices in tact, as is, and absorb the increase in fuel prices ourselves. Letโs see the impact after month-end and make a call going forward. For now, these are the behind the scenes increases that we are dealing with. Fuel Levy Increase examples
- Fuel levy example from provider (A): The industry has received an increase in the price of diesel. The fuel levy will be adjusted to the greater of R 37.87 or 64.39% of the waybill charge, effective 1st April 2026, Yours faithfully, FINANCIAL MANAGER.
- Fuel levy example from provider (B): We would like to inform you of a 2% increase in the fuel levy. Please note that all other service rates will remain unchanged, and only the fuel levy component will be adjusted. Thank you for your continued support.

Based on developments in South Africa as of March 31, 2026, the government has announced a temporary reduction in the fuel levy to combat rising fuel prices. Announced fuel price increases โ with relief. With the R3 levy cut the petrol and diesel prices are now as follows:
- Petrol: up +R3.06 (instead of R6.06)
- Diesel (0.05%): up +R7.37 (instead of R10.37)
- Diesel (0.005%): up +R7.51 (instead of R10.51)
The fuel levy is reduced by R3 per litre for both petrol and diesel, effective from April 1, 2026, to May 5, 2026. The intervention aims to soften the blow of steep fuel price hikes, limiting pump price increases for motorists and consumers. NOTE that this is a temporary measure is expected to result in a revenue loss of up to R6 billion for the government.

The APRIL figures arenโt shown yet at the time of publication. Gasoline Prices in South Africa decreased to 1.20 USD/Liter in March from 1.26 USD/Liter in February of 2026.
