This is where is all starts: with the Specialized kids bikes.
Last time I posted all my own adult bikes. NOW it is time for mini-me. And his sister. Let’s have a look at the half-a-dozen in their very own range of Specialized kids bikes. None of these have been bought brand new at the store. They all come from either Gumtree or Facebook marketplace. If you know what you are looking for then you can pick them up for a bargain. But you have to be quick. And as such we have complete the whole range from balance bikes all the way up to the XS 27.5 ‘big-wheels’ for mini-me. Here they are, in chronological order.
Specialized Hotwalk
Start right here. Our first Specialized kids bike. If we’re being honest with ourselves, learning to ride, back in the day, bordered on a traumatic event. The crashes, oh the crashes. These days, however, kids have it easy with awesome little bikes like our Boy’s Hotwalk. With no pedals or gears, it’s designed to help Junior finds his balance by making it as easy as possible to put his feet down. In fact, scooting around with his feet is how the bike moves (outside of gravity), so he’ll get used to the feeling of riding without much of the risk. Specialized Hotrock 12
Second Specialized kids bike. If it’s time to stop pushing and start pedalling, the Hotrock 12 makes the transition fun, easy, and sets him up for a lifetime of riding. BMX-style, 2-piece lightweight alloy handlebar puts kids in a comfortable and confident position. 12″ A1 Premium Aluminium coaster-style frame is light and low to the ground, with forward BB for an easy transition from a tricycle or big wheel. Adjustable bar height/angle lends versatility as your child grows. Which they do. Very quickly. Just like ours. Both of them. Specialized Hotrock 16
Third Specialized kids bike. Because madame wanted a pick bike! With our Riprock Coaster 16, riding gets boiled down to its simplest element—fun. And to make sure of it, we designed the bike with tons of cool features that are easy for your little ones to use, like a coaster brake for simple stopping, wide 16×2.3″ tires that increase stability and confidence, and tough components that will stand up to years of abuse. It’s the perfect bike for your little ripper to start getting out on the trail with—we just wish that we had one when we were kids. Specialized Hotrock 20
Fourth Specialized kids bike. While there are many notable features that make the Riprock awesome, it’s the 2.3-inch tires that provide a high degree of, well, shred-ability—delivering exceptional traction, control, and confidence for riding rough, off-road sections and city streets alike. And when you combine the big tires with sturdy 20-inch wheels, an easy-to-use coaster brake that all but eliminates the threat of the dreaded endo, and a single-speed setup, you have the perfect mountain bike to get your little Ripper out on the trail. Specialized Fatboy 20
Unused Specialized kids bike. This was too big and heavy at the time so we sold it, like new. The frame features an A1 Premium Aluminum construction that provides the ideal blend of efficiency and durability, while the geometry creates a roomy top tube and short chainstays for easy climbing and confident descending. Our A1 Premium Aluminum fork is lightweight and pairs up perfectly with the fat wheel system to soak up trail chatter and bumps. The SRAM X4 9-speed rear derailleur provides plenty of gears for your little ones to make it up and down almost anything, while being tough enough for abuse. Specialized Pitch 27.5
Future Specialized kids bike. Still need to grow another 5cms. It’s been said that variety is the spice of life, and the same could be said for riding. After all, life’s too short to spend all of your time out on the bike path. It’s time to grab your ride by the horns, take it out of the city, and let it roam free. It’s time to get on a Pitch Sport. We built it with an aluminum construction that’s durable and compliant, while our Sport Trail 27.5 Geometry ensures that you’ll remain both comfortable and confident when your wheels hit the dirt. And with corrosion-resistant hardware, and dependable brakes, this Pitch is ready to take you wherever you need to go. Specialized Allez
This isn’t a Specialized kids bike at all and I have personally ridden it because at 56cm frame size it is one size too small for me. But I bought it and forgot about it until I walked into the garage and found it hanging there in-between all the kids bikes. The Specialized Allez is a super cool and great value road race bike from Specialized and this is the most beautiful of colours. Oh and I bought it for a customer from the UK who came over to do the Tourdeboland with us this year and wanted a rental bike. So I bought this one for him. And is this not just the most beautiful green you have ever seen? More on https://www.specialized.com/za/en/allez-elite/p/184449?color=293181-184449&searchText=90021-4056
