Bicycle Couriers update: we are ALWAYS OPEN!
Cheers as we head towards winter!
Welcome to the Bicycle Couriers update for the end of the first quarter 2025. Today the school holidays started. The first three months of the year has come and gone in a jiffy. We’ve had lots of #bicyclecouriers (and now also Cyclotourism.co.za) fun, and have been rather busy during Q1. Here is a recap of what we’ve been up to on the blog, even though we’ve been very quiet for the whole of JAN and FEB and only got caught up with spreading the bicycle couriers news right here in March. Here we go!
Bicycle Couriers update Q1
- Hijacking in Fourways – can you believe the very first post we shared was that of a bicycle hijacking in JHB this quarter. Where the criminals pretended to be police officers. How low can you go?
- Cyclelab contact update – we’ve done at least half a dozen posts on Cyclelab before. And it goes to show because we collet from and deliver to them ever so often.
- Where can I get bicycle boxes – if you are in need of a bicycle box to pack your bicycle for transport then this is the perfect place to find one. Or better yet, outsource the effort!
- ABSA Cape EPIC route reveal 2025 – oh yes we do love a bit of EPIC. And after competing for the last 3 years. It was quite something different to watch from the sidelines.
- Bolandcycletour recap – but even sans the EPIC above we did get to do some cycling with 1500kms around the Western Cape in our inaugural annual 3-week cycle tour!
- Ten years on the Tourdeboland – the last week of the Bolandcycletour merged with the Tourdeboland this year and with good reason, after 10 years we know what we are doing.
- WOW Foundation warriors on wheels – what a privilege it is to be pulling a child in a buggy every year during the Cape Town Cycle Tour and other races and putting a smile on your own and other faces.
- List of all the bike shops in SA – where can I find a complete list of all the bicycle shops in South Africa? This is a good starting point as we suggest 3/4/5/ bicycle shops in each of our main centers…
We followed the ABSA Cape EPIC
- Welcome to the Prologue – SIYA shot the start gun for the pros and it was great to see all our mates, both local and international, with so many countries being represented.
- Stage 1 as is starts in Meerendal – the racing started in earnest and everyone got reminded of what lay ahead for the week. But no-one had any idea of exactly what would unfold…
- Stage 2 time time trail transfer – the longest time trail stage in the EPIC history moved from Meerendal to Fairview, Durbanville to Paarl to set up shop underneath the Paarl Rock.
- Stage 3 was cancelled due to heat – and unfortunately a EU rider passed away almost one week later. Sincere condolences to the family and one can only hope he passed after doing what he loved.
- Stage 4 saw N-1 in Paarl – a cooler day than before as the mercury wasn’t anywhere near the high 40’s again, or the claimed 50s that some riders saw on their GPS devices. Good grief. What a relief.
- Stage 5 was the wet wet wet Queen stage – transfer from Fairview in Paarl via Stellenbosch and Coetzenburg over the neck to Lourensford in Somerset West.
- Stage 6 dominated by local boytjies – a day in the basin starting and finishing in Lourensford where our South African men Tristan Nortje & Marco Joubert took the honours.
- Stage 7 crowns NINO – as the overall winner together with his teammate for an all-Swiss victory as the stage was shortened due to the relentless overnight rains and cut out some singletrack.
- Recap of all stages of the EPIC – the EPIC guys surely do know how to make a good video. And it was great to catch a recap of all the events during the week.
And finally, from Bicycle Couriers
- IRONMAN® in PE this weekend – as always we’ve sent a lot of bicycle to the coast for the big one this weekend. And will most certainly be watching how the athletes perform.
- PING with these bicycle tracker apps – there are so many apps out there that kan track a rider or a stolen bicycle. And we decided to mention a view in this review right here.
- Cyclelab email addresses for 2025 – yip we send a lot of bicycles through the Cyclelab group. And always keep up to date with contact details. For each of their workshops in SA.
- New bike day with bicycle couriers – when my 10yr old current EPIC comp alu become due for a replacement. I was quick to find a worthy carbo successor in JHB. And bring it down.
- Loving the Specialized range – these are the half a dozen bicycles in my own stable. And the ones I enjoyed most. Have travelled most. And have provided so many great memories.
- Start them young on Specialized kids bikes – from their very first balance bike sans pedals. All the way through 12 16 20 24 and more inches. And onto adult bikes. Start your kids here.
- Op die Taalmonument – join our 1200km Audax BRM ride starting and finishing in Paarl this year. You have 90hrs to complete the course. Average of 300kms per day over 6 days.
Bicycle couriers into the second quarter
No cut and paste. No artificial intelligence (although my own sometimes feel like same, when the days are long). And mostly no repetition. Although we can sometimes bang on with similar themes and phrases. Like sending your bicycle anywhere in the country. From point (A) to (B). and we collect every single weekday. For the best boxed bicycle transport on South Africa, and beyond.
Now,
Where can we send your bicycle next?
