First things first: what are the boxed bicycle dimensions?
Let’s work on dimensions in cms of 160*30*80 and 30kg. This allows for large bikes, ebikes, road bikes, gravel bikes, and likely anything less than a tandem in size. The 160cms is long enough for most bicycle to be loaded while still keep the rear wheel on – which means it is quick and easy to load. You just need to take of a pedal or both pedals and turn the handlebars to make it fit in the generous 30cm wide box. And when the front wheel is off the 80cms height allowance is ample. Just ensure that you take that dropper seat post all the way to the bottom.
Next up: from where to where?
Let’s do 4x examples. (A) One is the stock standard CPT to JHB route, let’s say going back after the CTCT in March. (B) Next up is coming down to Stellenbosch, the wine route, for the ABSA Cape EPIC also in March. (C) Going on holiday to Hermanus and wanting to take your bike with? Let’s see what it costs to send it there. (D) Finally, let’s say you want to participate in John Swanepoel’s MTB Africa Gravel Grinder series that starts in a remote location like Prince Albert, and you need to send your bicycle there from JHB (or PTA, or any other main centre). How much? See below. All of these amounts were gathered from Rush. Which may already come at a discount. Track https://portal.thecourierguy.co.za/track
- Main centre: JHB Cape Town: R1474.74 Incl VAT
- Also main: JHB to Stellenbosch: R1474.74 Incl VAT
- Holidays: JHB to Hermanus: R1474.74 Incl VAT
- Remote: JHB to Prince Albert: R1474.74 Incl VAT
*HALF PRICE? Send from just R699 on #bicyclecouriers!
From the above we can see a pretty much flat rate for The Courier Guy in these examples. And it comes in at more than double what it would have cost to send your bicycle on #bicyclecouriers. The first 2 examples would have cost R699 (main centers) each with us, and the last 2 examples would have cost R999 (remote areas) each with us.
Both YES and NO
YES we also have an account with The Courier Guy but NO we have never used it to send bicycles with because from the above examples you can see that after their recent price adjustments it is not a cost-effective option to send a boxed bicycle with TCG.
So where can we send your boxed bicycle today?
