In their own words: Ride The Karoo stage race takes place in the heart of the Karoo at Dwarsvlei farm. Each stage passes by historical 100-year-old stables and 200-year-old stone walls leading onto double lane “sheep tracks” while riding past familiar windpump scenes along the way. Experience authentic Karoo hospitality with braais, fresh farm bread, condensed milk coffee, koeksisters & craft beer amidst picturesque sunsets. It is not about crossing the finish line as quickly as possible but rather about a riding experience like no other.

The Ride the Karoo runs from 26-28 September 2025. Did you know this about Middelburg in the Eastern Cape? Middelburg is a town in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, in the Great Karoo. It lies in the Upper Karoo, 1,279 m above sea level, with a population of 19,000. It falls under the Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality, in the Chris Hani District Municipality.
How to get to the start line?
- Directions from JHB: Take the N1 towards Colesberg. From there follow the N9 towards Middelburg. Continue with the N9 towards Graaff Reinet, approximately 15km after Middelburg you will turn left into Dwarsvlei Farm. Follow the gravel road for about 2km to the race village.
- Directions from CPT: Take the N1 to Beauford West. From Beauford West take the R61 towards Aberdeen. Turn left towards Graaff-Reinet on the N9. From Graaff-Reinet follow the N9 towards Middelburg for approximately 87km. Turn right into Dwarsvlei Farm. Follow the gravel road for about 2km to the race village.
How to send your bicycle to Ride the Karoo?
Sending your boxed bicycle to the start line of the Ride the Karoo in Middelburg Eastern Cape couldn’t be easier. Just try and book your bicycle transport well in advance. Because it is in the middle of nowhere. Which is exactly where you want to be. You can either pack the bike yourself and we can collect door to door, from your home or office. Or you can take it in the your nearest and dearest or preferred LBS local bike shop. For them to box it for you. We collect directly from the shop. And bring it down to the start.
