ANNUAL SUPPLIER REVIEW supplier review for bicycle couriers

Every year we take stock and do our annual supplier review

Annual supplier review. And what better time to do it than in July. Yes, our business is seasonal. July is the slowest month of the year. right in the middle of winter. Which makes perfect sense. Aren’t most of us fair weather cyclists? When doing so for fun then mostly yes. And this week we’ve been looking at all our stats and have to consider other players in the market.

While some go on holiday – we stay on top of our game. And in doing so we have identified and considered:

40 suppliers on the shortlist

Because we have been considering and adding suppliers as we go along. Bicycle couriers are quite familiar with this process. As we do it all the time. Hence dubbed the annual supplier review. It started with a handful of 3rd parties for boxed bicycle deliveries. And then moved up to over a dozen. By now we are well versed in this process. And know exactly what we want. And what to look out for.

Plus, we have loads of stats over thousands of boxed bicycle deliveries. So, we can see exactly what our main centre to regional split is (7030). And what our accurate volumetric weight is (dims just under 160*30*80). Plus we know the average actual weight is 22.8kgs. Not bad for a boxed bicycle. You might even be able to sneak it through under the 23kg limit on some airlines. But why would you bother flying with your bicycle when you can send it via bicycle couriers?

Annual supplier review

These are the 40 suppliers we have on the shortlist. Some we have spoken to before. Some we have used before. And some sharpened their pencils after seeing our growth rate. A few coffees and many Q&A’s later, we will share in due course how each of these either fit, or not, the bicycle couriers profile. I’m excited to go through this process again. And want to futureproof the bicycle couriers business. Because we might have a 4-year exit plan. Which takes us to 2030. Imagine what it may look like by then! Here they are in alphabetical order, A-Z:

Let’s go!

Aerospeed, Aramex, Bob Go, CitiSprint, Concargo Global Logistics, CourierIT, DCB Logistics, DP World South Africa, DPD / Dawn Wing, DSV, EPX, Fastway, FedEx, First Freight, Freight innovations, Freight Innovations, Freightsolve, Globeflight, ICE Express, JKJ Express, Laser Logistics, Logistical Solutionist, MDS Collivery, OneLogix, RAM, Rhenus Logistics South Africa, RTT Logistics, RWS (Regional Wholesale), Shiplogic TMS, Siyanqoba (SWE), SkyNet, ST couriers, Star Express, Sunrise logistics, Super Group Logistics, Triton Express, Tunl, UrgentGo.

PS, after this was compiled, we did some research and identified another dozen providers. More on that later. All will be shared in due course. But until then we focus on sending bicycles all across the country.
