Catching up with Jaco Kotze from Cycle2Ride
Jaco booked his bicycle with us to send up from CPT to Piet Retief for the schools MTB series as on cyclelabmtbseries.co.za. I noticed his email and had a look at Cycle2Ride. What a brilliant initiative. And it has been going for half a decade. Cycle2Ride, established in 2020, aim to use cycling as a medium to establish physical development. Now that rang a bell, as we are delivering the SA Dream Bike for another Jaco, vd Linde, from Pedalforgood (formerly known as pedalproject), as on win-the-2025-sa-dream-bike.
This is what it is all about
This featured picture from the FB page caught my eye and was the reason for asking about what they do. Because it encompasses so many wonderful things in a simple picture. Love, passion, family, outdoors, health and the most important kind of wealth. As explained in their own words:
It is a small world indeed
While talking to Jaco from Cycle2Ride I learned that he also know Lorenzo le Roux who helps us to box bicycles at #bicyclecouriers and act as ride caption on our Bolandcycletours and Toursdeboland as on https://cyclotourism.co.za/. As Lorenzo was the joint winner of probably the biggest prize ever at the EPIC series with the Curro schools educational prize as mentioned below. Mountain bikers win full Curro Scholarships at FNB Wines2Whales event. Or directly from the EPIC at Thobigunya’s Priceless Early Christmas Present: Education. Curro themselves also spoke about the The W2W riders who pedal for scholarships instead of medals. Here you can see Lorenzo and partner in action at W2W:
A tale of two Jaco’s
Two Jaco’s. Two ventures. Both empowring kids on bicycles. And both with the same passion for the sport. Both of them also mates with Meurant, who sadly passed away recently. Bicycle summarised it so nicely in Remembering Meurant Botha: The Godfather of South African Mountain Biking – ‘He leaves a community forever changed by his vision and passion for mountain biking.’
Jaco from Cycle2Ride explained how he and Meurant met here al Delvera and what they have done together, plus what more was in the pipeline. Great thinks are coming.
