What is a honeypot and how can it be used to block spam comments in my bicycle couriers WordPress website?
I hate spam just as much as you do. And from time to time I move my relevant comments from the bicycle couriers main page to prevent it from becoming too long-winded to more relevant sub-pages, and FAQ sections. It is a cumbersome process.
And I hate captcha puzzles and images just as much as you do. Repetitive Puzzles and Image grids (identifying crosswalks, buses, or fire hydrants) require you to guess what the AI considers a “correct” box, and they often prompt frustrating failures where you have to restart. Meh. Pass, please!
But bots hate honeypots even more than me and you hate spam and captchas. Because a honeypot works like a charm. It lures the bot. And it mistakenly completes the infro where no reasonable human would have. Hence the trap and not it is no longer required to think or say:
- No I don’t want to visit that porn site
- No I don’t want to buy those drugs
- No I don’t want to click through to your website
How can you stop bots with the honeypot?
