HOW-TO: Save on transport costs with shared loads

How SHARED LOADS help you to save on transport costs

Perfect example below. Our cost was roughly 50% lower than the nearest alternative. Why and how? Because we utilize unused space elsewhere. For cheaper shipping for you. And by shipping we mean road transport. Of not just boxed bicycle. Nope, anything you can think of. Legally, off course. We just need the consignment dimensions to see what and where.

LOWER COSTS and more efficient trips with shared loads

Consider the following. There is a truck departing from JHB to CPT. It isn’t 100% full. Which means there is some unused space. And the trip is already a sunk cost. So, the owner of the fleet would be happy to gain a small partial load to get him closer to 100% full. Which means extra income. Because he has already paid for the trip. And for the owner of the partial load this also makes sense. Because his ‘extra’ should cost him much less than an arm and a leg elsewhere…

Real-life EXAMPLE of shared loads (4.5t)

Pictured above is the shared load we loaded yesterday. From JHB down to CPT. After the massive storm that hit Gauteng. And there is very little you can tell me about the hail up there. been there and done that. Either way. Our catering company needed to send 200 fold-up tables. And it went as follows. The dimensions or dims for short for each table was. Length times height times width. Which came to 180**75*15 and 22kgs each. Times 200 hundred tables. Flat-packed. Which is a total load of roughly 4.5 metric tons. Or 10 tons if you work on the volumetric weight. This would have costs the following amount through traditional courier companies:

  • TRM R42,200
  • CNL R43,500
  • MYC R88,100
  • DSV R103,000
  • TCG R164,000

Yet we came in at R23k. which is about 50% less than the cheapest quote above. How? By using our network. And finding a provider that has some space on one of their loads. Just like in the picture. Energy drinks at the bottom. Flat-packed tables on top. Everyone wins!
