South African stage win in ABSA Cape EPIC Stage 6

Local is lekker! The penultimate stage was wet wet wet in Lourensford. With 87km and 2500 vertical meters in the wet it promised to be a full value dae for must of the field, including the pro’s. When you exert yourself every day and you have the afternoons to laze around and recover in the chill zone on the ABSA Cape EPIC you can easily lose tim throughout the middle of the week as everything else dwindles into the background and all you as a rider have to do is the ride in the morning and rest in the afternoon. But by now everyone is sure to know it is Saturday and the penultimate day of the Cape EPIC for 2025. So what happened on the trails?

Results for the MEN

Nino: “Fillipo lost his gels and he ran out of energy”. The South Africans Tristan Nortje and Marco Joubert was fighting it out with Avandetto/WILIER for the last 20kms trying to hang on and then Avandetto dropped a chain and the Saffers slipped away for a clean stage win in EPIC conditions! Imbuko got the win – “holy shit, it just feels so good”. Well done to Marco Joubert and Tristan Nortje taking the win by crossing the line first at Lourensford. And the Swiss Team of Scott/SRAM goes into the final with just 32 seconds ahead of Avandetto/WILIER. Tomorrow is going to be EPIC!

Results for the LADIES

For the ladies, Annika Langvad has her birthday today and by now have a 15mins lead on the GC, so with just today and tomorrow to go they have the luxury of playing defensively iso taking any chances. Oh, and bar anything unforeseen, Annika, currently on 5x ABSA Cape EPIC lifetime/career wins is about to make history tomorrow when she become the first professional rider to take 6 EPIC overall wins. The other two being Karl Platt (BULLS) and Cristoph Sauser (Specialized) on 5 each.
