All about tracking apps during major cycling events
Let’s have a look at three big sporting events in the form of bicycle races and do a quick mention of the tracking apps used during each of them. I’ve done all the rides, used all the apps, and can tell it like it is.
ABSA Cape EPIC tracking app
Most topical as of now is the ABSA Cape EPIC which is on during this week of Sunday 16th March 2025 and finishing this coming Sunday 23rd March 2025. It started in Meerendal, moved on to Paarl, then comes through Stellenbosch and finishes at Lourensford in Somerset West. The ABSA Cape EPIC tracking app last year seemed to be somewhat slow to update, but better than the year before. And the version used in this year’s EPIC in 2025 seems to be better still. So, they must be continuously making improvements in the background. The app is quick to select a rider or team based on name, star/like them to follow, receive rider update on the phone as they move through checkpoints, and include the daily results and GC result below that. For a quick all-in-one stage race tracking app on the ABSA Cape EPIC. And the live web results are also much quicker and more legible than before. Good job guys. And girls.
FORD Trailseeker MTB series tracking app
What is the world’s biggest single-day MTB series? This right here. What used to be the Nissan Trailseeker MTB series in SA. Got Renamed to the King Price Trailseeker MTB series in SA. Currently the FORD Trailseeker MTB series in SA. Which was great because as a FORD Ranger driver we had preferred parking right at the entrance. Queue all the bakkie jokes. Either way, the event that they ran to kick of the trailseeker series right here in Stellenbosch in January was not only a brilliant ride, but the tracking app was sublime. Quick and easy and fast SMS updates that show you accurate results for what seems like the instant you get off the bike is exactly what you need. I remember staff members using phones and scanners in the start chutes to scan riders’ number boards. And this app is brilliant in our honest opinion. More, please!
CTCT Cape Town Cycle Tour tracking app
CTCT uses the SportSplits mobile tracking app. I have been on the bicycle and never bothered downloading this one but it was used by friends and family while we were pulling the WOW buggy for Bellingan around the Peninsula. Friends and family of riders can track participants in real-time through the SportSplits Tracker Mobile App. Not only does this App feature live tracking and a live leader board, there’s an interactive map that allows you to see in detail where Refreshment Stations and cut offs are, as well as places of interest, parking and powerzones. There is also an info section with all the latest event updates that you need to make your ride as smooth as possible.
Where to next?
Is doesn’t matter which tracking app you use, or which event you want to attend… Bicycle Couriers can send your bicycle to and from your next race, quickly, easily, conveniently. And we collect every weekday. Book now? Yes!
