Airline approved size: 140 x 80 x 30 cm. This size is within the maximum allowed dimension for AirTravel of most international airlines. And those dimensions are pretty generous, as a box of that size will easily swallow the largest 29r MTB frame available. BikeBox stores in 80% less space
Folds into itself and uses 80% less storage space than a hardcover box measuring a mere 83x77x7cm. The massive advantage to be able to fold the box when not in use: BikeBox fits into a Fiat 500 (!) or can be stored under your bed. And consider fitting your BikeBox in your rental car – one can always make a plan to fit the disassembled bike into the vehicle, but a normal size Bike Box does simply not fit in a car. BikeBox is featherlight
Weighs a mere 6kgs (excl. accessories) — so there are 17kg of packing weight before one reaches the Airline limits! This is music to my ears, because on my last trip using a bikesafe I was hit with a R1000 overweight charge at CPT International airport before boarding to the EU (because if your weight limit is 20 (23kgs) and your empty box or bike transport system already tips the scale at 13kgs, it certainly doesn’t leave you with much leeway for packing). Being HALF the weight, you can pack TWICE as much in this example.
BikeBox is super strong!
The product is made from a single sheet of strong and waterproof polypropylene (1200grams, 4mm) and can be used for multiple races. You can use a cardboard box and dispose of it after every trip (the environment won’t thank you). And sometimes that cardboard won’t even survive a single trip (thanks, ACSA).
