Warrior On Wheels Foundation: Hope, Courage & Adventure for over a decade.
The Warrior on Wheels Foundation is a South African non-profit organization that provides adventure and sport opportunities for children with special needs. WOW was inspired by founder Deirdre Gower’s son, Damian. They promote universal access in tourism and sport by facilitating monthly adventures. And participate in annual events like the Cape Town Cycle Tour. The Warrior On Wheels Foundation also works with the tourism industry to make venues more accessible and relies on sponsorships and volunteers to achieve its mission.
My journey started in 2019
I think my first outing with a buggy was with Imaad during the 2019 CTCT. It was such a rewarding experience that I was hooked instantly, and we haven’t skipped a single Argus yet. Over the last 5 years we’ve had some amazing adventures and built some great memories. Including expanding Warrior On Wheels Foundation buggy trips to the 947 Ride JHB; and off to DBN for the oldest road classic in SA – the wet-wet-wet Amashova.
More than a foundation, it’s a family
Warriors are one of those organizations where once you are in, you are in! It is more like a close-knit family. Over the last few years that bond has grown substantially. Especially after losing a few warriors along the way. Which shows us that life is precious and short and that we should make the most of it while we can. Which is exactly what all of you are doing.

It was only when I had kids myself that I realized just how special this group really is. Deirdre, you’ve created something wonderful. And Razia and Ayub, thanks for driving the events and keeping us on our toes. You do some amazing work and set the best example. I salute you Warriors, and Parents. It is an honour to be associated with your (our) Warrior On Wheels Foundation and I am very much looking forward to the next Cape Town Cycle Tour in March!
