How to get a perfect Yoast SEO score for readability
This is how I write. Without even thinking. I do the posts in Word and then cut and paste them into my blog. And by that time all the green buttons for the Yoast readability test light up automatically. Which means a job well done.
Five ways to get the perfect Yoast readability score…
- 🟢 Short sentences. Just like I learned from Afrikaans back in primary school. aim for 8 words or less. One sentence has one idea. Don’t join too many things
- 🟢 H1 or H2 main title and H3 onwards. Follow the hierarchy. Easier for humans and bots to understand what you are on about. Be logical.
- 🟢 Short paragrahps. No more than 150 words each. And a heading between every 300 words or less. Don’t beat around the bush. No pun intended.
- 🟢 Active voice. No legal speak or boring hypothesis. Write in clear and concise actionable words. In the present tense. As far as you can.
- 🟢 Transition words. This is the one I skip altogether. Because the short sentences force them to be obsolete. At least for my kind of writing. Which I like.

- 🟢 Add a featured image. Cut and paste your meta description for the blog post over to the image attributions and caption. In all 3x sections.
- 🟢 Natural use of the keyword in your text. So that it flows. No keyword stuffing. But there are a few hints when it becomes difficult. It when you do a list in paragraph format. Then you can sa a derivative of ie ‘keyword phrase nr 1, nr 2’ etc. either at the beginning or the end of each paragraph.
- 🟢 Have an internal link. Which can be as easy as asking the question like can we provide the service that you are advertising for. At the bottom of each article. With a link to your sales page. Or your contact page. To prompt action. Subtly. *Top tip: But you can add more internal links where appropriate. Think beyond getting a perfect SEO score. Think of how you can get AI engines to reference your answers. That is a topic for another discussion.
- 🟢 And an external link. And if there is nothing you can think off, try a wiki page. Or google map location. If you don’t want to send links the way of the competition. Or to your suppliers.
