Bicycle storage at OR Thambo airport
This is a brilliant idea, and I didn’t know that it is available in South Africa until one of our customers used and recommended them. It’s very simple: you know the guys who wrap your bags in plastic at the JHB International OR Tambo Airport? Well, they do luggage storage as well. Exactly the same as what I did in Istanbul earlier this month after the Transcontinental bicycle race. You can leave your bag with them for a small amount per half or full day and then pick it up later. Which allows you to move around freely without having to lug (‘luggage’) around your bicycle bag. Or any other bicycle equipment or bags for the matter.

But wait, there’s more. They are also operational at CPT international airport. Which is great, albeit we never had and issue collecting bicycles or dropping them off in and around Cape Town, seeing as Bicycle Couriers is based in Stellenbosch. And we have multiple bicycle courier services providers running around the airport, with depots and warehouses in airport industria. What does it cost to store my bicycle at the airport?
Just 70/80/90 bokke. It’s relatively cheap, with prices ranging from just R70 for 0-5 hours; R80 for 5-12 hours; and R90 for 12-24 hours. Prices correct at the time of writing. And the price depends on the duration of bicycle storage. Now you can leave your bicycle at the airport. And #bicyclecouriers can collect it from there to send on to your final destination. Or deliver it there for your connecting flight. Or have your bicycle ready and waiting there for when you arrive.
Why do we love the A-teck store-teck facilities for bicycles?
Where can you put your baggage belongings while dining, shopping or touring and travelling? At the store-teck counters! It’s cost effective. It’s open from 4am to 10pm in JHB and open from 6am-10pm in CPT. You can store not only your bicycle box, but also other luggage. It is safe and secure, and you get a receipt for the items booked in. Which promptly brings us to the next point:
What is the process for bicycle drop-off/collection from the airport?
Easy. Make the online booking for your bicycle right here as per normal. Plus:
- When you want #bicyclecouriers to collect your bicycle from either airport then you simply book it in at the storage facility, contact details below. And you get the receipt and share it with us (otherwise they won’t release the bicycles to our drivers when the team goes to collect – and these extra checks & balances are a good thing in sunny South Africa).
- Or when you want us to deliver your bicycle there then kindly contact them in advance to notify them of the delivery that will be taking place there and then we will deliver the bicycles, get our POD proof of bicycle delivery signed as usual, and share this with you together with the receipt of the luggage storage if any and if they did not already share this with your directly.
