Flying with your bicycle, eg: to the IRONMAN® in Turkey

Flying with your bicycle to an offshore bike race or bikepacking adventure? Let us show you how, incl. a top tip for saving on bike travel!

Found #bicyclecouriers on Google search

This morning, I got a message from someone who found #bicyclecouriers online via Google search (organic listing 🙂 ) and she wanted to know if we just supply the boxes or whether we ship internationally as well. YES indeed, we do both. With bicycle couriers you can buy the ultimate bikebox and get a quote to send/receive a bicycle to/from and offshore or exotic location.

Question: international bicycle transport

So my CEO would be doing the Iron Man in Turkey so he would want it to be shipped back from the hotel that his staying at which will be Kaya Palazzo Golf Resort, Kadriye Üçkum Tepesi Mevki, 07506 Serik/Antalya, Türkiye to our offices … [details truncated] here in JHB. Can you assist? Off course we can! Off to the IRONMAN® 70.3® in Belek, Antalya, Türkiye in November. Where ‘anything is possible’.

SNAP! I’ve been to both Istanbul airports with a bicycle earlier this month

I flew back from Istanbul 2 weeks ago after #TCRNo10. And I have been with my bicycle to both the old and the new airports in Instanbul. Inbound from Kosovo and outbound to Doha. The old airport (ISG) is Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, on the Asian side, east of the Bosphorus. While the new airport, İstanbul Havalimanı, (IST) is the home of Turkish airlines. This new Istanbul Airport (IST) is the largest airport in Turkey and is located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of the city.

Back to the bicycle business

The short answer is YES to all of the above. Not only can we supply the ultimate bikebox. But we can help you save some money in the process, as below. Ps, why use the ultimate bikebox for your international bicycle travels? Because it is the approved airline dimensions of 140*30*80cm and weighs very little, which leaves you to fill up your 20kg or 23kg allowance for a bicycle box. Mine came to just 19.3kgs for the bike, helmet and cycling kit, with bikepacking bags, as I loaded the batteries in hand luggage.

Fly with your bicycle on Qatar airways — going places together

Qatar airlines allow a sports item such as a bicycle box (our ultimate bikebox wth its 140*30*80cms dimensions perfectly first the bill) that can be up to 20kgs without costing extra. Based in Qatar, most flights route through Doha, and I have personally boarded a Qatar airways flight with my bicycle a dozen times before and will continue to do so in future (despite the fact that they don’t have an office at the new IST airport in this example). Qatar Airways employs more than 43,000 people, is a member of the Oneworld alliance, and their slogan is ‘Going Places Together’.

Fly with your bicycle on Turkish airlines — we are globally yours

Did you know that the new IST Istanbul Airport İstanbul Havalimanı is the 2nd busiest airport in Europe? And it is the home of Turkish airlines, with the vast majority of the airport allocated to Turkish airlines counters and infrastructure. ‘We are Turkish airlines | We are globally yours’. Yes, you may also take a bicycle box such as our on your Turkish airline flight and head of to the IRONMAN® in Belek 🙂

*TOP TIP: How to save money with international bike travel

I don’t want to talk myself out of a potential sales here. But honesty is the best policy. So here goes. YES, we can help to send your bicycle offshore. But it is costly. About the same as for an adult 1-way ticket. Which means it would be first prize to take the bike with you when flying, and rather spend that money elsewhere (like buying an ultimate bikebox…)

Many people ask us to send their bicycles home after an offshore event, as they first want to go and travel for a while. But there is a better option. Book your boxed bicycle into the luggage storage area at the outbound airport and then go and travel without having to lug around the bicycle box (or other items). Then collect it when you depart to come home. Easy. And probably saving you around R10k in international bicycle transport costs. It’s my pleasure.

Now, to/from which country can we send your bicycle today?
