While the Karoo2coast didnât happen this year and we had to turn around before the start, everyone including their bicycles are back home safe and sound and that is the most important part. We can always cycle in that 1 race again next year. And we will. Here are some high(low)lights of what happened and continues to unfold.
Franschhoek got almost 30 centimeters worth of rain!
News 24 said Franschhoek recorded the most rainfall – 299mm – during the storm in the Western Cape over the weekend. The Overberg, Cape Winelands and Garden Route were the worst-affected regions during the storm. Villiersdorp recorded 141mm of rainfall. More on the western-cape-storm
The N1 is open again after the flood

Times live reported that Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says only 15,000 of the more than 82,000 people disconnected in the Western Cape as a result of the recent floods in the province are yet to be reconnected to the grid. Loadshedding suspended in WC & EC flood areas
EWN reports for CAPE TOWN – Eskom said due to widespread damage to electricity infrastructure caused by flooding in the Western and Eastern Cape coastal areas, load shedding would be suspended with immediate effect in these areas. As from flood-hit- cape-coastal-areas
72 Kids & 10 Grownups rescued from Swartberg
News 24 said it happened at the Cango Mountain Resort. Arrangements were made on Tuesday to send much-needed food and water supplies to the group by helicopter. Garden Route District Municipality Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Gerhard Otto said the pupils and adults were able to leave the resort in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The mop-up begins after the Western Cape floods
EWN reports that Western Cape mobility MEC Ricardo Mackenzie has asked holidaymakers to move with caution, as many roads are still considered unsafe.
