MOTORBIKE transport guide (internal)

All you need to know on how to price and book motorbike transport in South Africa

Welcome to our MBK motorbike transport guide for SA. The below is for internal use but we keep it open to the public so you can see what we do and how we think. There are no secrets here. Just good service. So where can we send your motorbike today?

WHERE: Which routes?

Motorbike transport is a tad more tricky than boxed bicycle transport. Because motorbikes are larger and heavier. So, we make use of trusted service providers. And get preferential rates. And can only service certain main centers and routes are others are too dangerous. For example: we don’t go through the Transkei and rather service the CPT DBN route via JHB. Hence, we do the following routes and stop everywhere inbetween:

  • N1 from CPT to PTA
  • N3 from JHB to DBN
  • N2 from CPT to PLZ
  • N10 from BFN to PLZ

Which pretty much covers all the main routes in SA. But there is not enough demand to send it into the Northern Cape or North of PTA to Polokwane and even on the N4 to Nelspruit to justify twice weekly trips. So these are either ad hoc, or pre-bookings for large groups, or not at all. That is the way the cookie crumbles. With motorbike transport, and in life.

TIMING: When to send?

Most routes are run twice a week. Up and down. For example CPT to JHB, say collect on a THU and deliver on a SAT. Depending on which direction. So check dates with customer. And keep it open and flexible. Also note that our popular routes may have been booked in advance so even through we run twice a week you may only get a spot the following week. Or longer. Depends on how far we are booked in advance. And it happens. So if you decide to send: be quick, accept that quote and make the payment to confirm your motorbike transport.

PRICE: What does it cost?

Check out our price guide and route map on Price for motorbike transport in SA – our simple visual guide to what it costs for sending a MBK from point (A) to (B) along the main routes. Expect to pay between R2499 and 4999, typically, depending on your route and model. The motorbike transport price also depends on the size of the bike. Obviously, a small scooter takes up less space than the biggest Harley, or something with a sidecar, or a 4-wheeler. So we do factor these into the price when booking your motorbike transport.

CONFIRM: How to book?

Because the pricing is not standard and the dates are not collect every single weekday as with boxed bicycle transport, we answer customer requests and quote as received. Once the price is accepted we will send of the booking via email for payment via online card payment and EFT and do the sign-up or loadsheet with all the details required as below. No mess, no fuss, just quick and easy motorbike transport.

EXTRA: Info required

But wait, there’s more… to it than just a cut and past boxed bicycle booking. With motorbike transport we need more details. As follows. Full names and surname and telephone number and address for both the sender and the receiver. Also company details if we collect from a store. This part is obvious. But now comes the additional info: motorbike details, make and model and VIN number, license and registration. And are there any additional items to go with, like spare keys or papers or a helmet and kit? And when and where to collect —or will the sender/recipient make use of our closest depots in say CPT and JHB? Note the depots change according to which service provider we use for the motorbike delivery.
