N-1 in Paarl: ABSA Cape EPIC Stage 4

A more sedate ABSA Cape EPIC Stage 4 in Paarl

Halfpad! The granite domes of Paarl. 80km and <2000m of climbing. But still no walk in the park after the heat from yesterday. It was a dusty start and into the singletrack. Into the Paarl reserve and over the Taalmonument on this  Stage 4 in Paarl.

UCI Men on the ABSA Cape EPIC Stage 4

Into the flow trails above Spice Route and an EPIC pic of Nino Schurter where he jumps and takes a hand off the bar to point to the cameraman. They end up in 2nd position on the day but still in 1st place on GC. And our local boys Marco Joubert and Tristan Nortje was in the mix as the former lead out the sprint but the latter was unable to follow and they ended up finishing just off the podium. Oh and did you spot the clever little touches for the drone photography – as ‘the untamed African MTB race’ is printed on top of the yellow start/finish arch especially for the aerial photography. Brilliant.

As for our riders…

Jen took some strain in the heat the day before. Chris lost his partner altogether and had a solo start today. And will be riding alone from here on in. Mark is soldering on in true fighting spirit. Michael from Stillwater is still flying a red ABSA jersey. And all well on the western front for the rest of the ABSA Cape EPIC Stage 4 riders we follow. A short and sweet update on a day that we couldn’t go out and support in Paarl as originally planned, because of school commitments for the little ones.
