Below is a real life practical query and answer that we give so often that it is best done publicly on this blog right here. Now we can cut and paste. Or you can find out even without having to contact us. But you are still welcome to contact us. As we love talking about any format of cycling.

This is how to send your bicycle down to the CTCT with #bicyclecouriers.

When is the CTCT? Sunday 8 March 2026

CTCT takes place on the second Sunday of March each year and for 2026 it will be on Sunday 8 March 2026. Taking riders on a 109km route around the Cape Peninsula, the Cape Town Cycle Tour is South Africa’s must-do cycling event. With route highlights that include full road closure, boisterous roadside support and the glistening ocean views from Chapman’s Peak, this ride is a bucket-list item that needs to be ridden to be believed.

Dennis asked how can you send your bike to CTCT…

Good day. Hope everyone is well. We are thinking of doing the Cape Town Cycle Tour next year. Would it be possible to transport bicycles from Pretoria to Cape Town? And then again back to Pretoria? What are the costs involved? Do we need to disassemble the bicycles? What would the timing be of everything? Kind regards, Dennis.

And we told him the truth about how to send your bike to CTCT

Including what does it cost to send your bike to CTCT? How long it takes to send your bike to CTCT? And how to pack the bike for sending it? We do this ever so often. Here goes. Again. Verbatim. With #bicyclecourier enthusiasm and energy, as always. Hi Dennis. Yes indeed. Details below…

Cost

From JHB to CPT is R699 per bike each way. You can pack it yourself and we can collect door to door. Or you can drop it at the nearest bike shop for them to box it for you and then we collect directly from the shop and bring it down to CPT – we can delivery either door to door to a hotel or friend or BNB accommodation this side – or to a local bike shop if you prefer.

Packing

Oh and packing is quick and easy – typically they use large boxes so the rear wheel stays on, they just take off the front wheel and pedals and turn the handlebars to make it fit. And YES, e-bikes are also very welcome!

Timing

We collect every weekday. And on avg from JHB to CPT takes 3 days. So ideally we want to collect say on the Monday for the bikes to arrive around Wednesday or Thursday that you can still go for a test ride before the weekend and registration and CTCT Sunday.

Let me know – happy to help – then we can arrange.
