All the action and the drama from the ABSA Cape EPIC 2025 edition
After sitting in the raining having celebratory beers with mates (well done Chris on your 9th EPIC to date) I cannot help but sit back and reflect on the week that was, while watching how everyone performed during the epic, EPIC, of 2025. With temperatures reaching half-a-hundred-degrees Celsius (according to some) and wet-wet-wet trails in Lourensford (again, and it shouldn’t come as any surprize by now), this EPIC had all the elements. This is how it went. And these guys sure know how to make a good video…
What happened during the ABSA Cape EPIC 2025?
- SIYA starts the Prologue in Meerendal. It was an exhilarating start to the week and every rider surely disposed of some nervous energy during the start of the 2025 ABSA Cape EPIC.
- HUGE Stage 1 test everyone right at the beginning. It may come as a massive wakeup call for the uninitiated, and serve as a timeous reminder for seasoned riders, as there is still a very long week ahead.
- TTTT as Stage 2 transitions from Meerendal to Fairview. The longest team time trial in the history of the ABSA Cape EPIC as everyone made the move from Durbanville to the foothills of Paarl here the sports would begin.
- CANCELLED Stage 3 after the temperature soars in Paarl. The mercury rose the silly temps and after a certain point the stage was halted and remaining riders removed and given a start the next day.
- N-1 during Stage 4 around the mountain in Paarl. Our main man start the day solo and remained an individual finishers during this years race. Fortunately or unfortunately the sun made way for the clouds.
- QUEEN Stage 5 in the wet moves to Lourensford. Almost 100kms and over 2800 meters of climbing on this national holiday. Saw many crowds in the wet as the race moved from Paarl through Stellenbosch to Somerset West.
- LOCAL Stage 6 win by SA due Marco Joubert & Tristan Nortje as they surged ahead during the last 20kms of this west stage and took their first win of the race while remaining in third place on GC.
- EL-NINO wins the ABSA Cape Epic after Stage 7 as the stage was reduced from 64 to 40kms and the climbing halved from 2100 to 1050 meters because of the relentless rain overnight in Lourensford.
